there are a lot of people here who live in the "euro"
area.

how do you feel about your new money?

have the prices gone higher when going to euro? this is what
happened here. of course it is nice not to have to exhange
money when going somewhere but is there something else that
is good about it?

It should help standardise prices across europe. Good for
the brits (if we adopt it) but probably bad for most
countries. It's also a very unstable currency meaning you
can make (or lose) a lot of money buying/selling euros.

euros suck.
global economy is shit.
more for the rich, less for the poor.
prices up n up n up.
social benefits down n down.
requirements to get in the euro train include several
socioeconomical problems.

prices mean nothing if not taken side by side with salaries,
social benefits, state economy, external debt...

as nice and exciting getting a new currency might be, I also
have to say that the euro sucks. some products have gone 30
- 100 % more expensive here, espeically food. and somehow it
feels almost the same now when you get 50 euros like it was
when you got 50 marks! with the difference that 1 euro = 2
dm.... :-/

1 euro = 5,9 fim

how come the food can be so expensive everywhere..

it's almost always over 30 euros when we go to the grocery
store..

Everything is waaay more expensive now.

i think for about 2 weeks... not sure anymore.

Anyway... back then when everything was double-priced, all
the prices in EURO's were numbers like 1,47 or 33,52

But shortly after the guilders dissapeared entirely,
everything has been rounded off nicely... the prices above
are now probably 2 euro and 35 euro.... none of those
"weird" rough prices anymore

who needs 1 cent coins or even 2 cents coins?

decimals (21,49 € for example)... i hate having lots of
cents, they're stupid.

me too!!!! i miss guilders so much!
And those coins are driving me crazy! There are too much,
and it's too hard to tell them apart

I'll probably never get used to it either... when i'm 80
years old, i'll still be calculating everything into
guilders in my head

the upside is, if you ever find a 1 cent or 2 cent coin from
finland, it's going to be worth lots of money

LOL, yeah that's me for sure :-p

I always have to remind myself that not everything is on
sale, and i have to translate those low prices into guilders
(and it sucks, because i'm terrible at calculating :-p
Usually i'll just "roughly" double the prices... and then
later when i'm home and check with the calculator... i
discover i spent much more money than i thought :-S

that's interesting! I wonder if escher would have done
similar things... if animation would have existed in his
days.

I saw an item on the news recently, where some guys finished
an unifinished drawing of him using a computer... it looked
great! Escher would have loved computers i'm sure :-D

offline Netlon Sentinel from eDe (Netherlands, The) on 2002-09-02 13:43 [#00375563]

yeah! apparently escher had distorted a picture according to
the mathematics used to calculate prime numbers, without
knowing it!

if you want, i have the animation these people made of the
picture, it just keeps zooming in forever and it's the same
picture over and over again.

endless, much like my avatar

I actually kinda like the Euro... The smaller coins are a
bit clumsy, but it's just so damn easy when I go off to
France or The Netherlands now.
I haven't noticed anything about higher prices than before,
really.

i think they showed that animation on the news aswell :-) it
was really cool... and i still don't understand quite how it
works... too complicated... how can it be just one picture
if they can zoom in on it endlessly? It's crazy!

If it is also a simple gif-animation like your avatar, i'd
love to have it... otherwise this crappy computer i'm
working from won't be able to show it i guess :-(
