SAW II question.

Ok....I heard there are no song names for any of the songs
on this album and all the song names were made by the fans
from figuring out the pictures and symbols. But howcome when
you dl an mp3 and stuff there are a set list of song names.
Who decided on these names? You know what I mean?

yes..i guess somebody named the songs and it got on

it is one of those things that you just believe in and do
not question

The names are whats in the pictures. That and when I stuck
the cd in my computer those are the names it looked up on
the net...

Ok but how did these names become official ( or unofficial
for that matter) ? I don't understand this. It's bugging me
for some reason.

Check the FAQ. I'd say because of napster. How are you
going to find and Download 25 untitled tracks? Names made
it easier. That and the names are what is in the
pictures...So it makes sense...

Yeah, but ... you could just be like disc 1 track 1

;)

I wonder if Phobia would know. Who or what made the
tracklisting official.

Thanks to all who read this thread.

As I said, I'm pretty sure it became official when all the
pictures were identified with the appropraite track.
Someone told someone else. It made sense to them, and sense
they didn't feel like questioning it, they just
agreed...Thats proly all there is to it. I could easily be
wrong though...

It's like how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie
roll center or a tootsie pop. The world may never know.
Thanks for the link DaWeeze so it will continue to remain a
mystery of how the names got started but I'll just be a good
little lad and accept them for what they are. Thanks all.
Goodnight

hahah

i know how many licks it takes.....and i'll NEVER tell!!

however the names are officially the unofficial names. and i
agree with 006 they had to put a track listing out there so
it stuck.

if you find out differently let us know.

SAW II is the first Aphex CD i purchased 2 1/2 years ago =0)

I just bought Excursions in Ambience The Third Dimension and
it has a track called "#19" by Aphex Twin on it. In the
booklet it says "Taken from Selected Ambient Works Vol 2 (UK
vinyl version). The track definitely isn't on the CD
version. It's veeeery minimal (same thing looped for 10
mins) and I can imagine it fitting well on SAW II.

Anyway, let us know.
Cheers.

the numbers of tracks are different.. 25 tracks for vinyl,
24 tracks for CD Warp UK, 23 tracks for the Sire USA version

of my favorite Aphex Twin songs.

#19 (stone in focus) is on the UK CD not on the US...

The names were first used on the IDM & aphextwin mailing
lists and were just chosen cause they look close to the
pics...I believe it was Alan Perry who decided on the names;
he was a very active AFX fan on the IDM list (also
responsible for a lot of the AFX FAQ)...

Now they are on cddb, they become more or less official....

check here for some more info re: diff US & UK..

well I've got a 24-track copy of SAW II and #19 is
DEFINITELY not on it.

phatbert is defintely right, 'stone in focus' (I actually
really hate these so-called titles) is not on either the UK
CD or the US one. the one (laughingly) called 'hankie' is on
the UK version, but not the US. The only place where 'stone
in focus' can be found on CD is that Ambiences In the 3rd
Dimension compilation. It *is* on the UK vinyl version
however. crackle crackle (and, if it's the brown vinyl
version, CRACKLE!!!)

the brown vinyl is currently at EUR 25 on ebay. If I wasn't
going to England in 2 days I'd be bidding for that. DANG!

the great mystery is:

WHY IS [Z TWIG] CALLED [Z TWIG]? WHY Z??
WHY WHY WHYYYY ZZZZZZ???

Brown vinyl. Damn. It's not just brown, it's SHIT colour. My
flatmate of the time got it when it came out, I remember
waiting for the landlady to go to bed so we could get the
bong going, we listened to it all, (lots of flipping) it was
amazing. We listened and checked out all the pics, graphs
and shit, IT WOZ NICE.

cheers...I always make that mistake...

I picked up a copy of that comp with '#19' on it on ebay a
while back & I remember thinking 'well, I'm sure I've heard
that before' the first time I had a listen....wonder why
they left it off the SAWII CDs, it fits in so well....

because there's no space left on those CDs jand.

The first one's 79 and the second 77 minutes. Try and get a
10 min track on there!

I know it's on the vinyl. It may be possible to fit it on a
cd if you do an overburn...

what the fuck's an overburn? You can't get more than 80 mins
on a CD, and if you can, I've never seen it anywhere before.

it does exist, 99min CDRs are pretty common now...but yeah,
I don't expect the tech was there to do this then....

DaWeeze > on my avatar? it's a picture of lain!
i'm not trapping souls... (like the knights ;))

shaped like a z? hmm... already thought of it, but i don't
see it looking like a z (it is such a blurry close-up!)...
bah, that's not really important anyway.

99min cd-r's? cool, i'll burn 'the wall'. i hate burning
cd's (i've done it for about 6 or 7 albums ever) but fucking
pink floyd charge too much for this album.

if you didn't know, 'the wall' is set to have a "minimum
price." i forget what it is but i've never seen it under
$24, which is expensive for a 2CD set (which is in fact only
81 minutes). also, the beatles cd's are a minimum $14.99.
never less. really obnoxious, but they know they can get
away with it.
