Get samples, use Acid 3.0

or Reason

or previously stated Fruity Loops, good for a first timer
and for messing around

the good thing bout fruity is that beginners can use it and
also those who've been making music for a long time

I think FruityLoops is a complicated mess of a program.
Check out Tuareg, available here:

Tuareg II.

the good thing about th0nk is that it has absolutely no
controls.

Acid 3.0 is just simply put, the best sequencer ever.
Scratch that, best music program ever. Anything can be done
with it, easily, with the greatest control... it's like
being inside the program, or better yet, actually being it.

hammerhead is cool for loops and shit, mike p used one for
tusken raiders, and i only found out after i made a song
with the same bit in it! i might be wrong he may have used
it from elsewhere, but i don't think he did.

I think Fuity Loops is the best for beginners. I got Fruity
Loops first, and it helped me learn alot about synthesis,
drum patterns, sequencing, and all that jazz. I think that
it is themost powerful program out there, as the sequencer
is simple, you can do anytime signature you please, it is
VST compatable, you can load samples, and it has so many
effects you won't know where to start.

Acid isn't a favorite of mine, but I've seen other make some
incredible things with it. Think that with Acid you have to
provide pretty much all your sounds. It comes with a few
sample loops you can muck with, but other than that, there
is nothing too spiffy.

Reason is great if you love to work with hardware like I do.
It looks and acts like analog equipment, so it's a great
program for the hands on type person. I thinks it's a bit
difficult to learn, but once you have sequencing down, it's
a peice of cake. My only real problem with it is the lack
of effects. You have delay, reveb, echo, simple stuff like
that, but for a person looking to do some hardcore tunes,
you'll find Reason to be soon boring.

The other drawback to Reason is the huge price. I think
Acid will run you about $300 right now, but if you wait a
bit, it goes down to about $200. Fruity Loops is the
cheapest, costing you $100. If you would like to try it
before buying it, head over to the respective sites for
demos.

fruity loops is crap. you do NOT need it.

I just use Soundforge 6.0 and Cubase SX.
SF is real easy to use. Cubase takes some time, but works
beautifully.

BUZZ MACHINES . COM
it has a better visual interface for effects and everything
can be sequenced. It's harder but better in the long run.
Oh and it tears the shit out of samples! <--good thing

why is it that people generally don't dig FLoops? do all
you naysayers know that that motherf**ker can do just about
anything. it has all you need, it's easy to use, and it
too "tears the shit out of samples"!

well, anyway--that's my opinion. for $100, what the f**k
else does one need?!...

if it hasn't already been mentioned:
reason (1.0/2.0)
fruityloops (despite the fact that it's SHITE)
techno ejay (another shite program, only you can do EVEN
LESS! but it's fun to dick around with and you can be
extremely creative once you've figured a few glitches out)
protools (:P)
buzz
reaktor
and a billion and a half freeware programs available on
shareware music machine (http://www.hitsquad.com)
oh and there's also such things as guitars and pianoes (not
that anyone here'd be interested in 'em- but i am)
and that's about it- good luck you artistic little twat!

I've never been able to get the pure fucked up noise that I
desire out of Fruity Loops. Buzz is an endless well of
fucked up synthed sound, no lame wave databases.

Buzz is a computer studio thing, with synths, drum machines,
samplers, effects (which can be used for anything in any
combination), and a sequencer. It doesn't have a handsome
interface like FLoops but it has more options and it's all
free. Every week or so more synths and FX are up on the
website too. It's really good, I've created 3 LPs and 1 EP
wiht Buzz. Before Buzz I used Cakewalk, hehe. All my
cakewalk stuff is crazy because it was all sample based.
Samples from Sawcutter and Hammerhead and Tuareg. That was
some fucked up stuff since the Cakewalk effects sucked and
just added noise. reall rough gritty sound though. I like
it now but it was just way too hard.

some.. excellent for hit hat sounds too. To get a little
more complex recordings.... get a minidisc recorder and try
sneeking up on your friends and trip them..... for those
acid type squelch sounds
