I've done a lot of thinking and toying with the
compositional and conceptual differences and similarities
between dance music, i.e. trance, house, dnb etc, and
experimental electronic music.

There seem to be a few crowning points of dance music.. -
hypnotic (via repetition and subtle progression) - very
explicit and important production - builds, breaks,
progressive nature

Not to say that these things don't arise in other more
experimental electronica, but a lot of the IDM I know is
much more compositional and rooted in what seems to be a
more psychedelic/experimental/abstract world.

I see these as two main branches, very distinct in the world
of electronic music-- that which defies genre and
categorization given the very new nature of electronic
music, and the stuff that seems to be working inside
existing and defined electronic genres, which seems to be
mainly dancy stuff.

I need to move to europe, the US is full of nincompoops.

it seems i need to find more analogues of the word "seems"
as i seem to have abused it in that last post.
