carl craig- landcruising, elements
sean deason- allegory and metaphor, phunk

anything by kenny larkin, stacey pullen, detroit escalator
co., claude young, underground resistance, jeff mills, rob
hood, juan atkins, scan 7.....that's all i can think of
right now.

if i can strongly recommend anything then it's the whole
allegory & metaphor album by sean deason....it came out in
2000, but it's probably the best detroit techno record to
come out in a very long time.

I think you all should check out the recently released album
by K-Rock...he's not from detroit, but the promising
soundclips sounds like old school techno/electro, but more
rephlexy if youy know what i mean. the rephlex site says
it's "electro/braindance", whatever that means. Anyway i
ordered it yesterday, yay

here are some other artists i didn't mention before, not as
well known as the "big" names, but might be worth a listen i
guess: optic nerve, octave one, eddie fowlkes, anthony
shakir, terrance dixon, k-hand, john beltran/indio(from
lansing, but still considered "detroit")...other stuff worth
mentioning, but more on the electro tip: drexciya, aux 88,
dopplereffekt/japanese telecom, adult, ectomorph(from ann
arbor, but still condsidered "detroit")

who aphrodite the hapy house/jungle guy - soundws nothing
like detroit music at all and richie hawtin's more german
style minimal acid - just been buying dance records since i
was 12 - the english were the first people to buy chicago
and detroit music apart from the black chicagoans and
detroit clubbers - you do remember the 1988 summer ofd love
don't you - the acid house and rave scene happened in teh uk
before it went to europe on the whole

Yeah, Cybotron! The music is very dated but it belongs to
the roots of techno. Juan Atkins was involved in the early
80's.

808 State's Newbuild is really not Detroit style at all
though it shares a similar DIY aesthetic. It is pure acid
house.

To get good detroit stuff, you cannot go wrong with the
trinity of Juan Atkins (as Cybotron or Model 500), Derrick
May (as Rhythim Is Rhythim) and Kevin Saunderson (as The
Reese Project, Tronik House, Reese or E-Dancer). Of the
three though Kevin is my least favourite.

K Hand is another. I really really like her spin on things.
Also I have a soft spot for female techno artists. Her debut
album 'On a journey' and her 1998 album 'The Art Of Music'
are absolute masterpieces.

Of the more recent artists, you could try Jeff Mills (as
Underground Resistance) and Carl Craig (as Innerzone
Orchestra, Paperclip People, Psyche/BFC and 69). Kenny
Larkin (try Azimuth) makes some great music as well.
