Wooooooooooaaaahhhhhhh!!!!
I've done a little review of the gig for all you lovely people here.
One thing about the gig says it all. The ten minute ovation and calls for an encore. Im not lying here.
Starting of the night after the lo-fidlelity all-stars went through thier greatest hits, luke vibert come on with some of his trademark electro-hip-hop we know him for. Great headbopping stuff. As luke played, rich set his laptops up, and as it moved towards his set, it slowly turned into drum 'n' bass, into a mental drill 'n' bass set as rich took over the reins.
The crowd, warp geeks, punk kids, old acid relics and many over's soon were converted to the aphex cause. Just when it all started going really well, rich dropped the nuke that was 54 cymru beats and the whole place went mental.
After the apparence of the giant, masked guy, the analogue bopping grew into windowlicker, which blew the roof off the botique tent (and the first crowd surfer at an aphex gig (probably)). Then old acid took the forefront, with rich packing in the beats and sending the crowd into obvilion.
Then, the wierd mulletted, aphex masked troll appeared, with the pounding beats sending the place apeshit.
Then it all ended, with a few thousand new devout new fans, and that ten minute cheering. In the end, the man himself had to tell the crowd that he couldnt play an encore, much to everyones annoyance.
Better than the strokes.

Whow, great! The soundclash he played in Belgium, thursday ,was pretty disapointing, so I'm happy he didn't disappoint in the UK.

I was there too, and i can tell you it was an amazing experience. His performance was way better than the one i heard at the NME show at Astoria.
10 minutes of shouting encore you say? I could swear it was longer than that! the whole of the crowd was shouting "come on richard" as he was ducked down behind the booth sheltering from the crowd.
The best moment had to be when he played windowlicker, i think 90% of the crowd must have known that tune as they went mental.
As darth manchu says, there was a guy wearing a white nighty type thing with "AS ABOVE, SO BELOW" written vertically, with strange symbols in the middle. There was another guy in a mask who started off on his hands and knees acting like a dog. Towards the very end of the set when the beats when frantically mad the "creature" took off its top and was raving in just a pair of boxer shorts.... very strange, but somehow entertaining!
There was a guy in a rephlex t shirt on the stage filming it.... could it have been Grant from Rephlex? i have no idea as i dont know what he looks like :/
After the crowds attempt to call rich up for an encore, he simply lifted his head above the table and scanned across the crowd with a massive grin on his face, before grabbing his rucksack and leaving the stage, much to the disappointment of 1000s of fans!
It was easily the highlight of the whole festival!

He was playing right up where the crowd was, so i think he buzzed off them a lot, hence how amazing the set was.

I loved it when that little creature gave the devil horns to everyone. That was truely amazing.
Apprently you get a fine if you play longer than you are allowed to.

Well, i watched cornershop, then headed back to the tent, but as i walked back, the walkway became crowded, and the marshalls were turning people away, and police, extra stewards and fire trucks were moving down. The whole walkway was blocked off and then when i got back to the gates to get into the main arena the stewards werent letting people in, and then after about 5 minutes, they finally let us in, but checked our wrist bands very carefully.
Chin stroking stuff.

I heard on the radio there was a big riot that night, a few portacabins got set on fire and police were fighting people for 5 hours.

They set the toilets on fire (again). I mean, it's happened every year practically, and Reading as well. Unless they get armoured toilet security (like ED-209) then it will happen every year.
P.S. more info on the set coming soon

i was at leeds. it was very cool...
luke viberts set beforehand was top - started with 'funky acid stuff', then got faster and faster till it was drill'n'bass stuff.
richard started with a version of 'the final countdown' as played on a cheesy organ.
i was right near the front - aphex was in front of the stage. the beginning of the set was more four to the floor stuff, then was a remixed bit of windowlicker (to which the crowd did indeed go mental).
then was loadsa drill'n'bass and gabber, which was completely mental and the best part. there was a short break with much screaming and cheering, then another burst before richard packed up and left.
