i recently turned a friend on to aphex twin (always a triumphant sort of thing when anyone i know likes the twin, because my conversion attempts usually fail). his interests lie primarily in jazz and funk -- black music, let's say. his first comment was, "god, this shit is so funky!" does anyone get that sense, that above all else, the pleasures derived from aphex are the utterly barbed beats and the ecstatic funkitude? i mean, if i ever heard him spin live i think i might shit myself it would be so funky...

all i've heard of aphex twin are the albums i own, which are come to daddy, rdj, windowlicker, and saw2....of these i don't find the majority to be very funky, but at least one song off each of these (save saw2) is VERY funky in my opinion. squarepusher's go plastic is the funkiest i've heard in this style of music, his stuff off this album can be neck breaking, man.

I think 'weathered stone' is quite laid back and has a bit of a groove..., in my opinion anyway..

you know, it was windowlicker. that was the first one he bought. man, that beat...i don't know what's funkier, the funky shit or the breaks on it that no human could dance to. what a piece of genius.

Anyone agree, Expert Knob Twiddlers is pretty funky.
Can anyone listen to Windowlicker and not like it? =D I have to admit that I can't help but dabble in a little dancing when the song is on, if you can call it dancing :-) Thank God no one can see me :-)

Congrats on converting your friend :-)
I have a friend who I tried to convert, I sent him a tape of some of Richards finest works.
He didn't like it much...
