Best headphones for IDM?

I have Grado sr-80s and the high end is just too fucking
pronounced for IDM (but they're amazing for jazz and
classical).

Thinking of getting some Sennheisers, something with a
flatter response, so my eardrums don't get shredded
listening to the likes of Autechre. Any suggestions?

i actually bought the Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones
today...fuckin expensive (170$) but definately worth every
dollar!

i tested out some AFX, VSnares and Plaid on them, and it
sounded sweeeet.

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros are very very good. Flat freq
response, light, closed (but not boxy). Recommended. I use
a pair now.

I'd rather have a few 15in. subwoofers and some good
tweeters. I like to "feel" the music...

The Beyers sound interesting... I like the fact that they
are a closed design. Now that I'm married I'm more
interested than ever in blocking out the world. :-)

i use Koss for all the music i listen to - IDM, experimental
rock, hip-hop, classical, pop, etc. it's a great all-around
pair of headphones. for IDM it does the job, for more bass
heavy stuff like jungle it could be better.

i´ve got a question about this though...

i´ve got a sony D-EJ925 discman, and some high-fidelity
Technics RP-F290 headphones. i´ve tried A LOT of headphones
on my cd walkman, but the highest volume sometimes isn´t
high enough...Is it the walkman or the cans??

always not loud enough?

...or its just your ears...

I'm quite happy with my Sony MDR-7506 stereo monitor
headphones. Great bass, great dynamic range, crisp
sound...made well. They look nice too.

its the amplifyer in your discman.... it just cant supply
enough power to your head phones... try plugging them into
your serio system and see the difference

Larger headphones will need a lot more power than tiny
earbuds. Larger phones like the Beyer have a higher
impedance than you standard issue walkman phones, so you
won't be able to get a decent level using a walkman. It'll
sap the batteries too.

The DT770s are great pro headphones, but they do weigh in at
a pro price too - £100. Ace bass though - listening to
Flim and CTD (LLF Mix) really do vibrate your whole head.
:-)

This site is the reason I ended up getting the sr-80s:

In the store they sounded awesome with classical music... it
was only when I got them home and listened to some Autechre
and Slayer that I found they were peaky in the highs.

Next time I pass by an audio store I'm going to see if they
have the Senn 580/590 and the Beyers in stock.

i got sony mdr-v700 headphones. i wouldnt say that they are
much better than others, but they look really cool. they
were quite expensive.
Sennheiser tend to be very reliable tho.
