What Autechre Should I Get Next?

offline DJ Xammax from not America on 2002-08-23 12:40 [#00361407]
Points: 11512 Status: Lurker

Help! The only Autechre I have is Tri Repetae++. I like it,
although the songs are a bit too drawn out. The second disc
is of course better, although I don't really see what the
fuss is about with Vletrmx21..right name? I guess I just
haven't been sucked into it yet, yes?

So can anyone suggest what Autechre I should buy next? I'm
looking for something pretty fucked up, but not completely
unlistenable. But I want a good mix y'know... like some slow
IDM here, a little ambience there, not the same basis for
each song. So please...

Help!

incunabula i'd say

Yeah I was thinking Confield, what's Incunabula all about?

if you want completely fucked up, then get gantz graf. only
3 tracks, though. confield comes close.

incunabula is more ambient. melodic. if you want that, you'd
better get amber, imo

Incunabula is their first and most straight (not in a bad
sense tho)

Confield their last and most fucked up (not in a bad sense
tho). Get EP 7 or Confield for what you described you are
looking for. Or even LP5

Thank you people. Now I'm completely confused! I only want
one at a time.. not much £.

H'ever...at the moment it's looking like Confield...

you should probably hear it first, because its kind of
weird
i mean i like "weird" and i have some much more fucked up
albums, but i just can't get into confield

My alltime Fav is the EP5 because . The price is low and
there are different styles on it. From totaly fucked (Ccec,
Left Blank) to Ambient-like-Scapes (Maphine 6.1, outpt ) .
So I definatly recommend you EP7

you should get chiastic slide though...i don't think you're

chronological fashion, i believe.

Incunabula is their best album imo so I'd get that, every
song is gold...confield is their only album I couldn't
stand, it's just noise all the way through...

DJ Xammax get LP5 before you get anything else, imo its their
best album, next to tri-repetae.Confield is good but not easy
listening,or always enjoyable listening, get confield after
lp5.Incunnabula i found was a little dull.
but in the end the choice is yours.

I was joking anyway. But I see confield as their best,
bravest, most complex outing yet. It's challenging, aye, but
it offers a lot of rewards too.

S H U T U P !

chiastic slide is wonderful.

anyway, confield is also great. especially 'parhelic
triangle' - that beat is incredible, the melody hidden in
the bell-like sounds.. wow.

my brother works at a recordstore and when people come and
ask him for some lounge album to listen to, he puts in
confield. scares the shit out of the jazzanova-creeps..
that'll teach them.. :)

Incunabula is the gateway drug for friends who like Pink
Floyd. You could slip Bike into a Dark Side of the Moon mix
and it wouldn't clash. It's a classic piece of work. The
minor to major interval shift in 444 makes a sob catch in my
throat.

But I'm much more into LP5 onwards. That's where they start
to leave their peers in the dust. Peel 2 is especially good
- the first track leads from a classic ae feel into more of
what they're doing now.

Their dullest work, for me, is Amber. It plays like outtakes
from Dead Can Dance sessions. Good if you like that kind of
thing. I don't.

I would recommend chiastic slide, LP5, and Amber. any order
it doesn't matter. If you are into those then get EP7. If
your into that then get confield. if your into that get
gantz graf. if your into that then your considered pretty
cool and hip by some, and pretty uncool and unhip by others.

It really depends on what you want if you want more
structure try

Incunnabula, Amber, Chiastic Slide, Chicli Sweet even LP5

but for less structured more Abstract grooves

EP7, Confield, Gantz Graf...

comes down to you really..Tri Repetae is very structured and
rhythmic if you want to expand on that get something from
the first list..though personally if you are really sold on
the crunchy metalic sound of Tri Repetae..Incunnabula would
be a diaaapointment...

Incunnabula...does it even sound like Autechre anymore?...I
mean if you played it to someone vagulyfamiliar with
Autechre..would they even pick it as being Autechre?..

I am with Meho...Confield is the only Autechre that really
finds itself in my player anymore...everything
else..personally feels redundant if you are hooked on that
one..
