I always thought detroit techno was things like Jeff Mills and Robert Hood. percussive , Minimal, with fast repeating loops (2 bar & 4 bar as opposed to the more traditional 4 , 8, and 16 bar) |

Most of the detroit first wave would cringe to be mentioned in the same sentence as "normal" Techno... Detroit Techno was all about soul...certainly not mindless drugmusic direction mainstream techno ended up following.... The second wave were much more influeced by what was going on in Europe...London, Berlin....people like Underground Resistance... |

yeah, Strings of Life, No UFOS, Clear, Nude Photo, It is What It Is...mmm..all great great tracks...they all still sound fresh now which says a lot about the differene between Detroit and it's mutant off-spring... Clear by Cybotron (Juan Atkins plus this guy called 3070 or something like that) is generally considered the first real Detroit Techno record altho there were various other electro artists that also played a big, if somewhat forgotten part... |

How about "the electrifying mojo"? he was a radio guy that played the first detroit techno on the air. nice guy and forgotten by the most of them... |

n he infuenced them - by playing an ecletci mix of music - european electronica and indie with us black musci and rock he also influenced some other folk - there is a printof an electrifying mojo fan club letter on the back of one of the big black albums .. |

wasn't it Derrick May that coined the wonderful phrase that Techno was the sound of Kraftwerk & George Clinton stuck in an elevator...I always considered that a beautfiul summing up... Music is the most liquid of artforms; I think that applies to it's history as well...kinda explains why it's so difficult to plot any definitive narrative... but we're trapped in time...so try we must...:).. |

I recommend Model 500 'Sonic Sunset'. It's frikkin brilliant! Some of it is SOO Kraftwerk. The whole thing is tastefully minimal. -P |
