I don't hear much advertised these days for anything slower
than 1ghz machines and there's P4 2.6ghz chips about,
processors seem to be speeding up almost exponentially, I
only wonder about what sort of figures will be considered
nextgeneration in 12 months from today? what do does the
average pc owner do with 4ghz?

one of my former teachers told us that there is no use for
more than 100MHz, that was when i got my 33Mhz 386

remember whats-his-name's law:
processor speed doubles every 18 months

he made this up a long time ago and its supposed to actually
be pretty accurate historically...
it would be interesting to look up some archived newspaper
ads and such, and check this out yourself to see how true it
is

hehe, i remember quite a few years ago when my father was
carrying this huge 286 laptop with a black and green
monitor. i thought it was the coolest thing.

yeah! my dad gave me his old business laptop a long time
ago, its a black and white screen compaq 286, with 8 MB
Ram!! that was like the "business speed" back then.. 8mb was
a shitload back then
