Squarepusher Digital Downloads ------------------------------
We are testing out new digital download techniques. If you fancy paying a very small fee for two high quality tracks from Squarepusher's forthcoming album 'Do You Know Squarepusher' (released 30th Sept) check out the Squarepusher digital downloads news piece or microsite on WARP....
it'll cost you a quid to dl these...congrats to WARP for trying this out...

are they as mp3s?
see here is what doesnt make sense to me...
they probably arnt mp3s... for quality... but then how are you supposed to listen to them besides on your comp?
at least with mp3s... you have mp3 players...
and also... it just takes one person to down load this... and distribute it online right?
something tells me this wont work...
if people are gonna pay for stuff, they want the whole shabang... cd covers w/art etc

This is the first news we have even heard from Warp about Squarepushers newwie.
And its a pretty interesting way that Warp have set this up :)
--------------------------------------------- There are numerous ways of paying for the downloads including text service and phone service - both incredibly quick and simple!
You can choose from MP3 MP4 or WMA files. The two tracks are F-TRAIN & ANSTROMM-FECK 4. The new Squarepusher 'Do You Know Squarepusher' album (WARP97) is released on 30th September 2002. You can buy the album on vinyl and CD, the CD comes with an extra 'Alive In Japan' disk.

Yep..they are 192VBR MP3s...or WMA ... or MPEG4 AAC files....
You get a choice....
And yeah, it can be abused...and no doubt will...but I'm more than happy to send a quid to SQPR...
And you gotta admit WARP need some major props to even try this out....

yeah...
but... hows it work?
what percent of the 14 bucks you spend on an album goes to SP?
and what percent of one dollar goes to him?
... iiiiii dunno.
and also... it doesnt make sense imo... because with electronic music... there is mainly one guy who does all the music/production... then the label releases it.
if they are just goin to have it as downloads... there is no need to even have a label... right?
i dunno...

It's an experiment....so sure, there are issues with it but fuck, so many people have been asking for this sort of cheap download facility and WARP have done it for us....

hey now! who said I was stealing his stuff?
I intend on buying the cd... cause I like hard copies.
I havnt even downloaded the leaked tracks cause I dont download mp3s of favorite artists.
Once I know I like an artist, i dont DL mp3s. I just by the cds
If its an artist ive never heard, ill DL it, listen to it for a bit, see if its my thing, if so ill delete the mp3s, and buy the cd.
if not, ill just delete the mp3s.
alls im saying is that i dont think this will work, because there are a many # of people who will just download and not buy
im cynical
