I think Ninja Tune is great. It seems to me that it keeps
the quality of the music high without getting arsey or
snobby about it. You can see that from just looking at the
forum, and although there are regular posts about squid,
exploding whales and scone fetishes I think the people are
much more open minded. At the other end of the scale is the
mu forum. Though having some interesting threads these guys
are often just muso snobs and I don't automatically see
whats so much better about music that doesn't touch people
than stuff on dancefloors that makes everyone happy. But
ofcourse 'IDM's got 'artistic' value. If I were to make a
thread about how much I enjoyed a mainstream house album (or
any house album..) i'd be flamed off (though i'm probably
contributing to an exile here)

Ninja Tune opened my eyes to a lot more music. I got into if
after getting some Quannum cos of Shadow and since I make
instrumental hip hop stuff myself a lot of the material on
the label suits me.
(sorry just realised this is not your question but i've
typed it now)

PS-I had an inkling that was you on the forum, but you never
replied to my email.

I may be young but I love stuff like 'strings of life'

I really want to here that new Clifford Gilberto album, but
one that's had a big influence on me recently was cLOUDDEADS
self titled album (though that was on Big Dada so i'm
cheating)

That's because I didn;t want to corrupt your taste.....I
think AFX is cool but that's not the end of music!! Drukqs
for me is shit! 30 tracks of trying to be avantgarde +
pop... It didn't work..I hope he'll sort it out next
time........

i hated drukqs to start with, i really did, in fact i was
gong to ask for my money back

but i've grown to like it, i dunno why, but i am suspicious
of the fact that there happens to be a rather big gap
between aphex releases and anything else(deliberate or
paranoid?)

"That's because I didn;t want to corrupt your taste....."

I don't understand, how would you corrupt my taste?

I don't even know if I have a specific 'taste'...that's one
of my main problems when I make music, i've got so many
different influences i'm confused as to what to do. If you
focus too much on a single genre I think your music would
stagnate...like hip hop sampling hip hop!

it sucks, i hate waiting! it's funny cos it's not that long
of a wait comparded to other musicians i like, but he
"teased" us with all those releases in the '90s.

Okay Ben, I dwnlded some of your trax. The Afx forum is
not going to appreciate any of them. I was trying to help
you out. You've got potential but some of these arseholes
will drag you down.....

some of your tracks are nice but sharing thsm with loners
will be your downfall....\

I don't mean to be all 'Preachy' but trust yourself...

"The Afx forum is
not going to appreciate any of them."

well, I haven't shared any recently on this forum

"I was trying to help
you out."

Am I missing something? if you mean downloading them,
thankyou

"sharing thsm with loners
will be your downfall...."

that was because I was wanting to pick my best for more
mainstream listening (by that I mean the forums) and had
nowhere to put the others in the meantime for people to hear
them I know
