the layer of that is used to store data can be placed on both sides of a cd. it works for dvds as well.

No offence intended in thatlast reference; it was a Simpsons reference. It means, "I don't know, and you're exposing this fact by asking me!" I really can't remember the reason that both sides of a CD can't be used. But I'm certain I'm right. CDs and DVDs may look similar, but obviously they are very separate 'kettles' of 'fish', "dude."

No, you can't write material on two sides of a CD. It has to do with where the info actually lies in the lacquer - actually very close to the 'top' of the disc - so in truth it is easier to ruin the data by scratching the top of a CD rather than the bottom.
Did that make any sense at all? No, thought not
