RDJame\'s best.....

revolver on 2001-08-11 04:37 [#00021001]

Just got into Aphex Twin recently, and I\'m just blown away
by this guy. I was just wondering what his fans recommend
song-wise, what his best tracks are. I\'ve read up on the
albums, so I know what to get, but I\'d like to know what
your favprite tracks are. Thanx!

The Grey Gentleman from Eugene, Oregon on 2001-08-11 04:39 [#00021002]

Everything, quite literally everything...

There's not an album I can thing of that I haven't really
gotten into at some point over the years...

Tek from Australia on 2001-08-11 07:41 [#00021014]

get I Care Because You do first,.... it's a good mix of
obtuse,.. innovative,.. and just plain nice songs,.. an
excellent introduction to aphex

Super Magnetic Neo from Australia on 2001-08-11 16:10 [#00021060]

Alberto Balsalm from I care because you do. I love it.
Though you can't go wrong with anything really.

revolver on 2001-08-12 04:28 [#00021209]

Thanks alot! I'm gonna hunt these songs down on Kazaa or
something, but I definitely intend to buy the actual albums.
They're just hard to get where I live.

Quoth from Lincoln on 2001-08-12 06:34 [#00021232]

and where do you live? i mean... buy the blasted cds so you
can experience the whole album rather than just going by
what other people consider the "best". there really isn't
any "best", it's just what you consider to have an influence
on you

for me three albums: 'Selected Ambient Works 85-92', 'RDJ
album' and 'I care because you do'.
But it's true, you can't really go wrong with anything.
Although 'Classics' does contain a few tracks which
are..."difficult".

revolver on 2001-08-13 03:49 [#00021389]

I live in Eastern Canada, and the record stores don't have
Aphex Twin, I'm going into college, and I can't afford to
order hundreds of dollars worth of CDs. Believe me, I'd get
the albums if I could, but it's not an opton right now. I'm
taking the easy way out with the internet. Thanks for the
suggestions, BTW.

leftrightronic on 2001-08-13 06:21 [#00021409]

I have no idea if they got a Best Buy in Canada, but if so..
I've seen a few releases by Aphex Twin there.
Around here I've seen Come to Daddy, I Care Because You Do,
Richard D. James, Selected Ambient Work Vol. II, and
Analogue Bubblebath 3 albums. If you can only afford a
couple start out with the Richard D. James album and
Selected Ambient Works Vol. II. Both of these will give you
a good feel for the opposing ends of the Aphex spectrum.
All his other releases just fall inbetween somewhere. Come
to Daddy is more abrassive but melodic in some parts and
Analogue BB 3 is just plain old skool.

Also, you mentioned you have Kazaa; search for all the Aphex
Twin music videos you can (if you've got the bandwidth),
before they take that shit down too . I've found the Come
to Daddy, Donkey Rhubarb, On, and Windowlicker videos all on
there.

Good luck man.

diego on 2001-08-13 10:23 [#00021452]

I even found the Ventolin video on there once too! (Video CD
version)
Good program (for videos)...
Sorry to sound retarded (this must have been discussed
hundreds of times here), but has anyone got good suggestions
on the best current audio file sharing software? I found
WinMX (I constantly get qued) and Aimster (usually can't
find what I'm looking for there) a bit disappointing.
Which one will REALLY fill the gap Napster left behind?

try audiogalaxy.com

revolver on 2001-08-14 03:30 [#00021608]

Wow, Aphex Twinners are pretty helpful. Thanks. I've got
quite a few songs from KaZaa (feels guilty, but fuck it),
and so far Cornish Acid, Come to Daddy, GirlBoy, Next Heap
With, Alberto Balsalm, Film (Flim?) and Windowlicker are the
best I've heard.

dozer on 2001-08-14 04:40 [#00021623]

fuck i hadn't heard some of these before. I have ICBYD, RDJ
Album, Come To Daddy, SAWII & Windowlicker. i downloaded
Pancake Lizard, isopropophlex, Xtal & italic eyeball and
they sound wicked, thanx. Might buy some of it.

visionsammer from earthlink.net on 2001-08-14 05:55 [#00021631]

The Richard D. James Album and the COme to Daddy cds are my
favorite from Rich. You really should hear those cds. They
are so great. They both really give you a taste of what the
Twin can do.

iDiosecrecy from Oz on 2001-08-14 07:39 [#00021652]

I think the Come to Daddy ep is the best he's produced, and
I Care because you Do is brilliant aswell. both those albums
definatley get

Fernz on 2001-11-29 10:14 [#00056704]

The best ones to pick up first are I Care Because You Do,
Richard D James Album, Drukqs and Selected Ambient Works 2.
That seems a good introduction to the kinds of sound he has.
:)

Dirtypriest from Denmark on 2001-11-29 10:16 [#00056705]

Doesnt amazon deliver to canada or something? theyve got a
deacent aphex storage you know. =)

what got you into aphex in the first place?

Chrispy from UK on 2001-11-29 10:23 [#00056707]

I know you chose Ophecks coz of Aphex but why did you change
your name from revolver? That was a cool name... Call
yourself 'The Ophecks Revolver'

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-29 13:37 [#00056740]

Revolver is pretty cool, but I dunno... Ophecks is a word
I've never heard before...

jand from Chelmsford,Essex,Uk on 2001-11-29 13:54 [#00056759]

The grey gentleman has the right idea... given all the P2p
filesharing going on, you have no excuse to get the complete
AFX collection...

I've enjoyed 99.999% of aphexs work at some point or
other...and if you ever get the chance, try to listen to his
pieces in chronological order, it's great to hear his
development over time..

bigbadbeardybloke on 2001-11-30 10:07 [#00057029]

hmm... best songs? in my opinion...
analogue bubblebath 1
didgeridoo
we are the music makers

jedy from Dublin on 2001-11-30 10:50 [#00057033]

get fucking everything!!!!!

once you pop you can't stop!! ;)

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-30 14:15 [#00057062]

well I won't suggest separate songs, but I suggest getting
the RDJ album, and I Care Because You Do first... those
albums really represent his work well I think... I like
ICBYD best out of his albums, but you can't really go wrong
with any of them... they all have something to offer...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-30 15:58 [#00057081]

SHUT UP YOU IDIOTS, REVOLVER IS OPHECKS!!! I JUST RAISED
THIS TO SHOW THAT I WAS HERE BEFORE!!! STOP RECOMMENDING
THINGS OR I'LL HURT YOU!!!!

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-30 15:58 [#00057082]

I'm sorry, I'm just in a bad mood.

aperson on 2001-11-30 16:54 [#00057098]

Definitely

4
Arched Maid Via RDJ
Cliffs
Green Calx

That would probably be a good introduction into aphex twin

And elephant song is just plain ANNOYING don't bother with
it unless you like screeching noises.

If you like more hardcore stuff check out the caustic window
stuff by him.

Humanoid Must Not Escape
and the Garden of Linmiri are great harsh songs.

Bob on 2001-11-30 20:34 [#00057164]

Glad that revolver guy is gone.

What an asshole...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-30 22:33 [#00057201]

Ah, but I'm still here, to provide asshole entertainment for
ALL!
