Anyone thinking of buying an iPod should probably wait for Toshiba's Gigabeat which is only out in Japan but going worldwide soon. It should be quite a bit cheaper ...

The hard drive is standard PCMCIA size, so you should be able to just pop it out and drop it into your laptop's slot.
I assume they are following the USB Storage Standard - if they are it will appear on your desktop like any other drive.
It uses USB 2.0, so it will be PC-only.

That's good, but I see the built in ports are USB 1.1, you'll need to buy an extra USB 2.0 card.

Having a removable hard drive is a nice bonus though ...
I also just came across this 20GB player, to be released this fall. No pricing given.
Bottom line: competition is good.

I'm wrong about USB 2.0. USB 2.0 devices should work with a old USB 1.1 computer, but just at a much slower speed. So all these new USB 2.0 players should be Mac compatible.

I'm on an 850mhz Power Mac as I type. Decked out with a 17'' Flat Screen monitor and nice speaks, with like 80 gigs HD. And yes life is good. Macs are sweet machines.
