Im listening to "Bros - When will I e famous" right now,
and that song is great imho.....Cheesy 80s music, but what
the hell, I think the 80s kinda ruled. Cuz there was a lot
of danceable synthpop and stuff.

Anyway, name some of your favourite 80s HITS

I love Michael Jackson's classic 80s hits, I gotta admit.

The Smiths are my favorite 80's band... and I guess
Metallica put out their best shit during that decade, but I
don't consider them 80's for some reason.. didn't really
DOMINATE the airwaves till the really early 90's.

But my fave all time 80's track... Nothing Compares 2 U!

well for some not so cheesy 80's music

I just picked up the reissue of 7Songs and Urban Gamelan by
23 Skidoo..excellent stuff..some of the beats, effects,
textures, metallic clicks etc and stuff..could fit right
into the 90's IDM...
it's a shame they are only known for Chemical Brothers
pillaging their high pictched bass riffs :(

well I have picked up two albums..
7 SONGS is from 1982..it's gotta a funky reverbed hyper jazz
sound..(some of John Zorn and GOD comes to mind)..but it's
also got some really haunting early industrial (i.e
Throbbing Gristle, Coil sounding and not NIN Ministry
sounding) soundscapes with tape manipulation etc

URBAM GAMELAN is 1984..the first half has the same live
heavy jazzy funk sound but the second half is
amazing..gamelan.and ...fareastern inspired percussion
pieces...with periodic chanting etc...pretty astounding as
it is all live..the closest comaparison..is the hyperkinetic
bits in the Akira Soundtrack....

but throughout the goingon is pretty spooky and haunting
some of the studio wizardry..(effects application etc)
sounds very fresh and current...unless there was remixing
going on that I am not aware of..both of these are
reissues..released in 2001..

biggest bonus for me..was the ultracool Nevile
Brody..covers..tasty stuff..

I LOVE 80's music... sure it's cheesey and stuff, but it's
good cheese as Ed the Sock would say... it's good fun to
listen to, full of nostalgia, and just good pop songs (not
always though, there's quite a bit of HORRIBLE 80's music
out there)... Some of my favorites are:

Tears for Fears
Toto
U2
The Police
Peter Gabriel
and LOTS AND LOTS of other songs... I really need one of
those big 80's compilation boxed set thingies... :)
