Does anyone ever consider the eventual decline of real human interaction (no smut please!) as a consequence of msg brds? Like I might even start a paper on this if the responses are good.

yes and no.... I have actually considered the consequences of message boards......
I think that people here are interacting having one overall comman interest... electronic music in this case. As many message boards out there tend to focus on one common thing. I think that it is a good thing and can only bring out possitive results. It can help bring out different ideals and expose people to things they would not normally be able to do in regular conversation (at least in my neck of the woods). It also depends on this: What do you consider human reaction... every one here is surly human, and people ARE reacting in one way or another (threads, email and instant messaging services). But spending TOO much time on the computer... never getting outside and interacting with "real" people can be a bad thing. Its not exactly physically healthy to stay inside all day infront of a computer... but then agian its not soo healthy to spend all day outside. Overall I think the outcome of message boards can be nothing but possitive. But this depends on how much time a person spends on a computer a day....

Nice to see Mickey mouse noticed this. No wait it's a bit freaky.
Anyway back to the topic. I disagree that the effects are so positive. I don't know what age you are or what your background is, -what's that got to do with anything? not sure-. Kids today are much more immersed in new technology and I just worry that they are missing out on a lot when it comes to communication. Like body language for a start.

quite the opposite
there tends to be a much more varied personality on here that the bunch of people you usually hang out with, indeed i guess if we really knew each other, the chances are we probably wouldn't want to, due to age difference or whatever
a combination of this virtual world and real conversation with real people can only lead to a greater understanding of different cultures and different peoples

I spend way too much time on my computer, WAY too much... but then again, I'm a social freak, and I wouldn't get to discuss this kind of music and other stuff with the idiots I know in person. With or without message boards, I'd be a fierce loner. They're great for the shy bastards like me.

I am full of surprizes...
But to say that your AGE and your BACKGROUND have to do with ANYTHING in conversation is a bit ludicris in retort to your reply Vit C. If someone shows intellegence in an online conversation, what difference does it make what age he/she is, or what background he/she is from. I think it is a safe bet that much of the people here are over 16 and I am sure the PROLIFIC posters, most of which I think are even older then that. There are some kids I have met in some of my previous gifted classes at my elementry/middle school that were WAY smarter then not only people here...... but people in high political control. (For a good book about children in intellegence/political circumstances look at the book "Enders Game" by William Scott Card)
Most kids DO go to school... which emerses them in interaction with other children, and I think going through all that is enough.... for most.
BTW I am way older then 16 if that gives any indication of what background I am from
