Apathy in the music press towards new music

I just read an interview with mikey P, and one of the
reasons that electronic music isnt selling is due to the
music press going straight for the cash and losing the once
fundamental issues of intergretty (sp?).

Which i can agree with. Most of the dance mags over here are
just about having it "large" etc, and NME has lost all its
good writers and just ploughs out all the tedius rock bands
(i.e. the strokes, the vines, the [insert 1 to 2 random
words here]) and ignores our scene completey.

What do you people think?

I think you're just about dead-on right. But as long as the
MB keeps up, I've all the music resources I need right here.
THANX GUYS

Yeah,I know what mags you mean...more about the 'hit' you
can get off leccy (did u like my term?)music ,than it's
substance. Will it ever be taken seriously? The NME can just
f*ckin' burn.

A much better read(IMO,of course) would be 'Future Music'
and 'Computer Music' mags where they do take it seriously
and still have the interviews etc.Oh,and its spelt
'integrity'.I know,shoot me! };>

there are no decent music magazines really

i used to love record mirror before it went bankrupt in
1990, now im resigned to paying a fortune for a
predominantly business oriented magazine to keep up with
whats going on

if anything, i've been seeing more electronic music in the
more "commercial press" for example the nme.
The fact that Fischerspooner have blown up has made these
mags take a deeper look at electronic music. Fair enough,
thats a completely different side to the Warp thing, but i'm
glad that not everybody gets my music. I'd feel far too
normal.

jockey slut is ok, ive bought it a couple of times

but i'd prefer a weekly mag that can be posted through the
letter box on a wednesday without the fucking free cd being
pocketed by the gypo paper boy

I think magazines like NME need "characters" to make and
break. Electronic music's artists don't provide those
"characters", it's often just people making music.
Electronic music is often also more abstact than other forms
of music and writing about abstract things is a hard thing
to do.
