I saw them on the Werchter festival last month, and I will
see them again on pukkelpop, next month.
they're good, but I haven't had the chance yet to d/l any of
their songs.

Do you know Lali Puna?
it's a sideproject of one of the guys from the notwist.

I picked up a couple of Notwist promo EPs not too long ago.
Pilot and Pick Up the Phone, not too bad at all. Plus one
has a spanky remix by Four Tet and Manitoba.

PILOT is the first song i heard and i liked it immediately!

esp on the song

I was at their concert at Roskilde, and it was great. And
Neon Golden is one of my absolute favourites this year...

they are quite popular in europe. they started as a somewhat
ordinary rockband but turned into their recent electronic
direction when martin gretschmann joined. he's also the guy
behind Console ('Rocket in the Pocket' is a great album by
him). they are very interesting since they really cross the
borders, simply due to their members.

I still haven't picked up neon-golden... but i've heard
nothing but good things about it :-) i'll probably get it
soon.

You should also try to get your hands on their previous
album "shrink"! I have that one and love it to death. Or at
least download the song 'chemicals".

There's a Notwist side project called 'Console' which is
also quite good, more genre IDM, (not really) than Notwist
itself. The first (and only I think) album is called 'Rocket
in the Pocket', check it out...

i listened to a bit of the new album in the store last

good.

Neon Golden is one album I really regret buying (fuck, I
thought I knew better than to buy stuff without listening
first).
There´s something that really isn´t right about that
record.
. The lyrics are fucking terrible. They´re embarrasing. It
seems like they haven´t got anything to say but, hey, when
you´ve got a singer you need some lyrics right!?
. The singer´s accent doesn´t exactly make them any
better.
. The fact that he´s a pretty poor singer doesn´t help
eighter.
. The lyrics and the melodies don´t go together very well.
The band just doesn´t seem to have the necessary
song-writing skills. The melodies are ok tho.

It´s a bit sad ´cause I really like some of it production
wise.
It´s the same thing with Dntel, I really like the whole
concept of mixing pop with electronica, but too often it
ends up sounding insincere and like bad imitations of good
songs and when that´s the case I´ll rather listen to truly
good songs without the fancy electronic production.

people seem to like it tho. whatever.

ps. To me, Max Tundra is a brilliant example of pop meeting
more experimental music and still managing to sound
completely natural.
He doesn´t sound much like The Notwist tho.

"fresh" is a good word to describe 'Neon Golden'. I had it
imported shortly after release and listened to it quite a
bit for the next 2-3 months..
I can understand what zetre is saying though. There's
nothing terribly potent or overwhelming about The Notwist -
More of something you'd listen to while entertaining friends
or driving to work. Pleasant.

I just downloaded pick up the phone and I think it's really
good, but i downloaded the song "neon golden" and didnt like
it nearly as much. I guess this band is probably going to be
hit or miss for me.

Reset the preset' is, I think, the latest console album,
it's a double album with styles, the first is along the
lines of The Notwist with some chick singing, and the other
goes more down a purely electronic path, it's wikkid moite.

the website for the notwist is chock.full of full length
tracks of all their related stuff, Console, Lali Puna and
others, http://www.notwist.com/flash/main.html
enjoy
