Mastering....

Today, as I was listening in my car, the RDJ album seems
like it's mastered in a crap way...it clips a bit in parts.
Maybe Richard had it done on purpose....you figure he
would....but that brings up a point.....

What do you guys use for your mastering? When I was looking
at Nautilis's site, under his gear he has about 4 software
packages for mastering....I don't have shit...

basically mastering is eq and compression (or multiband
comp) so as to maximize level and to have a good listen both
with big hp or crappy autoradio.

but there's more than that in mastering, more dynamic
process and complex stereo expand, wich are obscure to me.

i use tracks, some vsts and i just got audacity to try out.
i hate mastering!
some people clip on purpose.
i do.
i like the sound of the overdrive crunch!
i use it a lot on my most recent track.

the Sire records copy of Polygon Window - Surfing the Sine
Waves sounds like there was some cuts in it. Surely the
american version is not different.

yeah, apparently the first trak 'ploygon window' was
actually recorded from a tape. somehow the masters were lost
or somethin. but yeah, you can here that old tape wobble
sort of sound in bits.
