A month ago I really liked squarepusher, I loved his sound, but now that I've been on vacation and concentrated on a lot of music I came to the conclusion that squarepusher isn't that good it all. Ok coopers world and beep street are very good tracks, but most of squarepusher is un-original and doesn't have a good structure imo. I think afx, ae, boc, plaid etc are all way better...
any opinions?

squarepusher should hate me because everytime i want to buy one of his records i choose afx, plaid, ovuca, the most unknown artist but the few things i have of his stuff are great,it's a leader as i've already said in the sense that he makes something other artists can only try to imitate but never do better

He's awesome, but I used to like him more. He's still amazing, but Autechre has shoved him aside and demand most of my attention. Sorry Tommy boy!
I'm just in a cycle, and in this particular orbit, I'm not listening to the Pusher. Gimme a month, and I bet I'll be lovin' it again.

I don't understand all the hub-bub either. Don't get me wrong, I love some of his stuff Port Rhomus, Greenways Trajectory etc. - but I don't consider any of his releases 'essential' listening.

I think Tom Jenkinson might be the most talented electronic artist alive. Richard D. James still makes better music than him though.

Well RDJ is king, his music is better, but Tom Jenkinson's drill style is too amazing, I've never heard anything like it, his songs make my close my eyes shake my head and scream inwards. I didn't use to feel that way, but he blows me away. his sequencing and drill technique are mind-blowing, every drum sounds different, I really think he's a fucking genius, a word I use sparingly.

His stuff inspired me... but now I've heard a lot of things that I like better because they are more organic/ fading in and out/mutating in sound more microscopically, not digitilly at the larger scale of the drum units. Ex. otto von schirach's 8000 bc is a whole realm more intricate. Fast cut, copy, paste errors in percussion beat structures are the most interesting thing about his stuff and a lot of tracks pass the wicked test esp. big loada, maximum priest and feed me...

hmmm... in my opinion, richard's music is tops. autechre and BOC are good, but they don't compare to afx. and squarepusher? for some reason, i don't really dig him too much. some stuff is okay, but i'd much rather listen to aphex twin any day,,, evvvvvvvrrrrrryyyyyy day...

yeah, rdj has a gift though. His stuff is more human in nature... like it appeals to our monkey brains in the way our collective consciousness evolved to operate most naturally or something. It like using imagination to let emerge what will emerge without questioning it. And he's damn good at transfering his ideas into a realized finished form (which you can play over and over). Ae seem to have some seriously mad intelligent concepts in music, they're expressing what's in their head in a completely abstract form. It's like reading a book with the right brain hemisphere only.

Squarepusher not original? Whatever you say, man.
And as far as anyone comparing him to V. Snares, fuck all that.
Aaron Funk doesn't have as near as much talent as Tom. Tom's last name should've been Funk.

squarepusher can take any sound and make it Platonic..........if you know what i mean (check your Classical history). after he manipulates a noise, you cannot do anything with it It has a momentum and energy and drive behind it that makes everything sub-standard compared to it.
I want my music to destroy all expectations left by anything i've heard previously and Tom does this best with my current mind state...
AFX, ae, phonecia, global goon, all do this....but, for me, Tim has that special magic

yeah.. although venetian snares is cool... id have to disagree with all these people who claim that he's better than squarepusher...
tom's music has more dimensions than vsnares' sure snares can be very brutal...maybe more so than squarepusher...but that seems to be all that he does...
id like to see venetian snares make a full on jazz album...

I agree, he's got a certain charm to him, like RDJ, and you can see/hear that in his music. It's definitely something that a lot of these experimental/electronic/whatever artists now-a-days lack.

yeah..he definitely adds a personal element to his music that is exclusive to his work...just as rdj does along with a few other artists...thats why with all the other 'drill n bass' artists out there..when you hear a squarepusher or an aphex track...you can tell its them without actually knowing
