I used to have mp3's play with one central mp3 player (music match) but for some retarded reason windows media started working, and it allows ease of playing 2 mp3's at the same time (if you open two windows and click on a link in each...) the results are almost all more interesting than the original tracks, there's way more chaotic detail. This is fun, there's very interesting potential here I think. There's certain songs that are more compatible with eachother, mostly for reasons of similar tempo and pitch.

If I tried to do this using the software used to make the tracks, it would require huge wav files and be a pain... every time a track got boring in one window, I just changed to a new track, constantly having a new meshwork.

if you get your windows media player to be the default player it will open when ever you need to play a song
you can reconfiguer that to make it the musicmatch

I was listening to some eerie Autechre song on Winamp while watching lesbian porn on WMediaPlayer, and the shrieking and groaning went well with the music. Think it was EP7. It sounded badass, almost like something they'd actually DO, layering porn behind crazy noises.

I bet that did sound badass... a good combo too since one is organized with a linear tempo (well for autechre anyway) and the other is completely organic and lacking a "beat".
Actually I tried reconfiguring one as the default, but now the retarded contraptions seem to randomly take turns playing stuff, sometimes windows media takes a turn, but then gets bored and lets music match play a song here and there... they're conscious I swear.

There is an interesting Velvet Underground track, The Murder Mystery, which features one set of spoken vocals coming out of the left channel, and one set of spoken vocals coming from the right channel. Great stuff. Great track.

that song sounds interesting, I've thought about simultaneous vocals before.
This listening technique kicks ass!!!! This makes all songs better, daaaaaamn. Try any 2 songs, it's so organic. Out of phase maddness.

Yes! I'm finally able to listen to the two completely opposite tracks at the top of www.mp3.com/stations/blueberrymuffins at the same time!!!!
The happier one makes the evil one so much more eviler, unfortunately, one is a lot louder but you can change the volume levels accordingly, also each has a melody (so they don't go so well together since it's out of phase)....
OMG you can exponentially maximize stupidity by playing tchony's "outtie" and the retarded track "satan nme" lol

Traktor, the DJing software, lets you do this with two mp3s. You can change the speed of each mp3 individually, stop, start, whatever you want, and save the output in realtime... it's nice.

have you heard any of steve reich's stuff m? he did all these tape experiments where he would loop two copies of a sample at slightly different speeds ...so they would gradually go out of phase and get so garbled they would be unrecognizable ...they were kinda considered to be the precursers to 'generative music'
the results were sort of similar to the computer effect vocal fuckery you hear in modern 'idm' only he did like 30 something years ago
check out 'its gonna rain' and 'come out and show them'
actually...check out 'music for 18 musicians' too.. unrelated to this topic...but its sort of based from the same 'pulse' concept you were talking about in that other thread you started

I remember a lecture someone posted (with I think eno?) who talked about something like the almost constant variation of out of phase loops, but havn't heard reich's stuff. I'll hit myself on the head with *looks around... the computer scanner to make me remember to check it out.
I have also noticed your experimentation with these ideas flea, in recent songs mostly. I think you use a similar technique I used in asexual spore releasing hyper bloomer (everything is loops that are silent until instructed to make a sound (as a percussion unit)... this way every strike almost is different.) I have some totally out of phase sound in the end of TUTFW too.
Out of phase loops is a good idea to make variation, considering the limitation of time's unidirectional time line.

The Flaming Lips released a 4-CD set meant to be played on 4 separate stereos at the same time. They are all in stereo so it's 8 separate channels at the same time. I want to get it.

I tried this experiment. I took 1 mp3. I made two further copies. So all together I had 3 mp3s of the same noise. So I made one panned left. So I made one panned Centre. So I made one panned right.
So I had one play ¾ speed. So I had one play ¼ speed. So I had one play normal speed. So then I loaded them all into Cool Edit. So then I put them into Three different channels.
So then I saved it, making One more mp3.
So then I listened to it.
HOLY FUCK WHAT A MESS!!
