Thunderstorms here are sometimes preceded by wicked dust storms. If you're in the right place, you can see this wall of sand coming at you from miles out. They move very fast, I was caught in one while having a walk close to home. As soon as they block the sun, the world turns this strange tan color and then you know you only have a few seconds until it hits. It's cool.

whaley.....
have you seen the ones in phoenix this time of year.....scary stuff esp from an airplane. planes get grounded all ze time, and it's horrible....dust everywhere. we get them really bad here too.....but i'm always stuck in AZ when they get them....nasty!!
however
the dust in the air makes the SUNSETS to DIE for.....the most beautiful in the world are the desert sunsets!

I live in Phoenix, on the edge of the desert, so we can really see 'em coming. :-) The local news sometimes sends up choppers to film the storms which seems a bit scary to me.
You're right about the sunsets. The desert is harsh, but the colors at sunset are really nice.

My cat loses her MIND and rolls around on the carpet getting static fur, and that makes me crazy and runny-aroundy, if that's a word. Chasing mice that don't exist, jumping up the wall, crying, attacking my feet... that's how I know the weather is acting up.
And FUCK I love thunderstorms!!!!!
