Read about the phenomenon of learning. Whatever your reason, define some goal as rewarding and when any behavior tends to result in this goal, increase the behavior. Read about intelligence, look up c++ on google to get tutorials etc.
Actually if you want a career I suppose you'll need one of thsoe worthless "diplomas" or whatever or something, and you'll have to go through some crappy classes and stuff maybe.
I don't know. Gald I oculn't help.

Actually, I'm going into the AF, and if i can score high enough on the asvab (aptitude exam), and get into computer programming, and demonstrate to the AF that AI is a nessary field, it could expand. But untill then, i plan on making programming a reality. Anyways, i plan on getting all my "official" programming training/exp through them.

My AI lecturer is also a psychologist. Try reading up on the "Philosophy of Mind". It'll help you understand how learning and awareness work. You might also want to try reading reductionist philosophy/theory to help equate human thought to that of a machine.

this is a vast subject nano, but a very important topic are 'neuronal networks' which are designed to learn to react in a proper way, maybe just do a google search. most of these networks embed 'fuzzy logic' in one or the other way; this helps to deal with so-so - situations when you only have true/false

An interesting site to check for AI is http://alice.sunlitsurf.com/
It's a site which hosts the Alice-bot, a simple form of Text-rehearsed AI.
