Id like to do some IDM dj sets... where ever i can.. small
house parties or whatever...

but i dont have decks or vinyl... and it would be alot of
money...

so im considering goin with a laptop... and doin mixes with
traktor (is that the program name? for live mixes?)

only thing is... people probably want to see a REAL dj with
decks and stuff right?

hmmm, I'm a fan of the Dj who shows up with Vinyl and
Turntables, I've never even seen a Laptop DJ perform before.
I know RDJ does it but wouldn't it get boring just watching
a guy staring at a screen pressing buttons?

traktor's one of a bunch of programs that do this (i can't
remember the others right now), but they take a lot of
getting used to...it seems sort of alien working with a
mouse and keyboard to mix.

good way to go though, if you takethe time to learn.

check this cnn story someone sent me this morning -
Hard disk DJs 'spin' MP3s ...

Might also be worth you trying out AtomixMP3...I've heard a
few people recommend that as better than Traktor & I must
admit I did find it a lot easier to use...the auto
beat-match/mix is top notch & actually get's it right most
of the time (unlike most MP3 DJ stuff that tries & do the
same..)...that sort of auto stuff ain't gonna work 100% on
IDM stuff where ryhthms it get a bit too complex but for
mixing dance music, it's spot on...

If you're new to MP3 DJing, then having that basic chore
looked after is well worth it...and free's you up to spend
more time selecting tracks, fucking with effects, getting
creative with the mixing...

I got my copy to try out from SoulSeek, but they do a free
download trial version over at ATOMIXMP3.COM...
