Beatboxin

RisK on 2001-08-03 20:26 [#00019578]

Is there anyone here into beatboxin? Im practising it for a
few months now and I can do some cool rhythms with basslines
or melodies.. The only problem is I can't make fat snares,
mine sound real shitty... Anyone knows how I can make those
'Razhelish' ones?

phiz from over there on 2001-08-03 20:34 [#00019579]

have you heard or seen KillaKella, he is top notch, and i
reckon if you try and find his site he will have at least
some links or somethin for you.
He is from The Rock Steady Crew!!! (my first ever peice of
vynil was Hey, You the rock steady crew back in,,, ooooh
fuck knows)
but i saw him at Sonar and he was easily the biggest
highlight.
i'll see if i can find a link

Ive been doing some beatboxin with my freinds for about 3
years now. We can get some fat shit down sometimes, when the
vibe is the same, and all there. Its cool.

\/q on 2001-08-03 23:06 [#00019606]

cut the resonance and increase the attack

rob fragilenine from a warm place on 2001-08-04 04:21 [#00019610]

I can do the beat from Alberto Balsalm quite easily...

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-04 09:28 [#00019640]

I can many beats. Break beats are the best

Loogie from UK on 2001-08-04 10:36 [#00019656]

Hoorah! get your electro records out!
In the UK we had a series of compilations from Streetsounds,
Electro 1 and so on. Still got some...

Doug E Fresh was the daddy wasn't he?

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-04 10:47 [#00019659]

yeah Doug E Fresh anc Rahzel. I think.

RisK from Holland on 2001-08-04 15:13 [#00019693]

yeah I heard KillaKella is pretty tight.. But i've never
seen him perform. Saïan Supa Crew was @ Drum Rhythm here in
Amsterdam and they had some very cool beatboxers, even
better then Rahzel, check them out..
If you like those oldschool guys like Biz Markie, Doug E
Fresh & Fat Boys you should go to this site:
http://thebox2.free.fr/beatbox.html

Anyway, can anyone answer my question? How do you make cool
snare sounds?

rob fragilenine from a warm place on 2001-08-04 15:35 [#00019695]

I usually do a 'psh' sound or a 'psha' sound... it sounds
kinda like a bass drum and a snare at the same time.

Earface: no. Vibe is a real, correct word or term for that.
I guess vibe could be used for "ravers" or something. But
you know what I meant.

Mr Biffo on 2001-08-04 22:44 [#00019773]

My favourite is "mm-chika-mm-chika-mm-chika"

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-04 22:51 [#00019778]

I love adding in variety with the beats.

mm-mm bao chika mm-mm * Mm Mm chika chika mmmmmm chika boa
boa chika mmm ckika.

Mr Biffo on 2001-08-04 23:04 [#00019781]

Oh yeah, of course; you've gotta have variety. The best
fill is "tish-fipsy-wakka-wakka-chow"

Is beatboxin just making drum noises with your mouth or is
there actually specific way of doing it? I make IDM or drum
n bass sound rhythms with my mouth, and annoy/scare the hell
out of people at school. I was quietly copying Pen Expers by
Ae one day when I was bored and this guy smiled and said
"what the hell are those noises you keep making?"

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-05 11:09 [#00019849]

yes its just making up beats with your mouth. The best is
when you have a few people all do it together and make some
crazy songs.

MagicDog303 from Denver, Colorado on 2001-08-05 18:56 [#00019903]

Sounds like we need to get a little online Beatboxing battle
here. Lets see some MP3's showing off your skillz!!!

rob fragilenine from tafe on 2001-08-06 03:52 [#00019963]

Ok... I'll put some beatboxin stuff on my zebox site
(zebox.com/artists/plegz.html)

Be warned though, my style of beatboxing is more idm/jungle
than hiphop sorta thing...

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-08-06 04:05 [#00019965]

Hey Rob, please do that, I've been into Drum n Bass
beatboxing for a while, I'm not that good, but I would
Definately like to hear someone else's stuff.

You are my only hope, as there is no real IDM scene in the
U.S.

boxrocket on 2001-08-06 05:52 [#00019981]

-"there is no real IDM scene in the U.S."

sucks, doesn't it? i don't think i know more than one person
other than myself that listens to aphex twin, and i live in
a city that claims to be one of the biggest music places in
the world.

od_work from perth on 2001-08-06 06:00 [#00019983]

i got a track i did with my beatboxing in it
called feedback looke
is my beatboxing any good?

i did a fairly basic beat for that one, but mostly its the
actual sounds you get i reckon.

od_work from perth on 2001-08-06 06:01 [#00019984]
