Im listening to the beatles for the first time in a good long while, and its good stuff...
but know what I noticed?
their songs are over so FAST
i mean, i know thats how pop songs are... but its just wierd, after listening to alot of electronic music that goes on for at least like 6 mins on avg... and usually longer.
Its just odd.

Check Elvis songs and lots from that period and before....It's really punk, two minute songs max, energy, emotion compressed. no ego massaging with 14 minute 'journeys'.
I'm sure you all like one bit of your favourite track. 3.40 to 4.16 etc. why can't the track be that? forget the build up etc. what are you afraid of?

''Mildly revolutionary''... BWAHAHAHAHA!!! John Lennon has more talent in his dick, his cold dead dick, then even RDJ has in his own body. When Jenkinson and Paradinas and Booth and Brown and the guys BOC (dunno their names) are gone and forgotten, the Beatles will stand as the benchmark, the thing everyone should aspire to be. Fucking innovative without being overly pretentious twats, and not afraid to be ''pop''... they didn't give a shit whether little kids liked them, or LSD popping psychos. They just did whatever they wanted and the music world adapted to THEM, not the other way around.

And I agree about the songs being over so quick... that's the only thing that sucks about Daytripper and A Hard Day's Night and some others... so good, too good, it would be great to hear 10 more minutes of it, it just WOULDN'T get boring. That makes me cry, that their songs are so short.

I agree about John Lennon..but he was being dragged down by the cherubic jingle writer and the worlds' ugliest drummer while he was alive..
and now he's dead..long dead..but not before unleasing a pseudo art quasi intellectual wank fest that is Yoko Ono on the world...
maybe he wasnt so great..why else would he co habitate with people that wrote songs that launched a million Waffle Iron campaigns...or smeared words on brown cardboard in house paint and insisted on calling it art?

Oh... gotcha. But utter shite?
Well, he's no Lennon... but utter shite, no way... his solo career, barring his first couple albums, is utter shit... and his Beatles songs tended towards sappiness... but not utter shite, it can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt but I don't know how... :-/ He was the foil to Lennon's darker stuff. A foil dipped in candy cane sap, but with lots of nutritious melody. You're wrong cuz I said so!

I don't consider his solo career as being from the same UNIVERSE as The Beatles... totally different dimension. I don't listen to his solo crap.
Paul is a 6/10, John is a 10/10, but together, they're a 50/10. The sum is greater than the parts... Paul kind of needed John to put a stop to the sap! :-)

John 10/10 Paul -10/10..total sum zero but averages out to 7/10 by the sheer brilliance of John's stuff...

did you read about the 15 minute montage of the lessons in geriatric cradle robbing (snogging that child non stop) that was inflicted on the attendees of the wedding which had the attendees recycling gourmet vegan cuisine in the aisles..but somehow to Paul that translated to emotional resonance and he has decided to include an extended remix of it on the upcoming DVD...

I don't see why Thom is so dark and angry... what doesn't he have that he wants, he's rich and he's got a wife and a brand new kid, yet the guy doesn't seem to embrace ANY joy whatsoever... at least John was going through some genuine bullshit when he wrote that, showing his real feelings.

wow
when i left there was like 3 posts on here...
i must say i disagree about lennon. he was great at lyrics... but all the music was mccartney, and thats what i love most about it.
Paul is totally overlooked and underrated. His solo stuff isnt great, but what he did in the beatles was amazing. Perhaps it was because of the paul, john combo, but id say Paul was the more influential and talented one with the music.
yeah

i agree with zeus that paul mccartney is way too underrated.
in the last years of the beatles, during the making of their last (and best imo) albums (white album, abbey road, let it be) paul was the ringleader - he wrote most of the songs, did most of the arranging, and generally held the band together.

actually no
john was the one that was all pissy.
He brought yoko into the studio all the time, which was like an unspoken rule, to not have outsiders... and she sat there and criticised stuff like she was a part of the band.
so paul told john he didnt want her there, and john went apeshit because paul insulted her, and for that reason quit and never talked to paul again
