All we need is a Nevermind type album to hit, and IDM would
be the next big thing!! But, seeing what happened to grunge,
maybe it's best for it to stay underground...

but, here's another idea, would music like Aphex Twin,
Autechre, Boc, etc, ever have a chance of breaking through
to become popular? I mean, no matter how friendly it might
be, there is no words... I sent a friend of mine a couple
tracks by Aphex Twin, and BoC, and that's what he said...
"It's ok, but I like words" or something like that... the
best music isn't restricted to one idea with words and
lyrics, but I guess most people don't understand this...
maybe most people like to be told what a song is about...

dont care about great snares and stuff, thats why i really
dislikes Trance and stuff, they just care about the rythm on
the base, bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom
..............swiiingggg. Damn its enoying

Music is a type of art and like other kinds of art there are
many different ways to create it. Such as with paintings or
other visual media it's possible to create something
abstract and up to interpretation by the viewer, or to
create something fantastical using elements which are easily
recognizable to the viewer, or anywhere in between and
beyond. The same is true for music - it is possible to
create something that is open for interpretation by the
listener, and it is possible to create something the more
specifically directs the listener toward a particular idea
or emotion. The former is common in 'IDM' and the latter is
common in 'pop' music. They both have their places and
usefulness. Only with instrumental music can you create an
atmosphere where the listeners imagination is free to run
wild, and only with music containing lyrics can you create a
story of a man who is attacked by mutant garbage cans and
befriends a small deformed cat named Spilmf #9 only to
become wrapped up in the assassanation of president Andrew
Johnson.

beautiful place out in the country

why do you want it to be the next big thing?
trust me it happened to Industrial right under my nose...and
it's an eye gougingly painful experience....

btw...I think Geogaddi was packeaged and designed as the
Nevermind of IDM...with Q magazine raving how much better it
was than Drukqs (a-holes)...but I dont think it quite took
the world by a storm like Nevermind did

Geogaddi IS better then Drukqs... and I don't think it was
packaged... it's more friendly to the ear then drukqs, but
why does that mean it's "packaged" to be popular? That's
what BoC wanted to make...

and I also said in my first message that maybe it's best it
doesn't happen with IDM, and that it stays underground...

heh, well we all know your dislike for Boards of Canada... I
for one love both BoC, and Aphex Twin, and after longs
months of listening to both albums I for one can comfortably
say that Geogaddi is my favorite of the two by far...
although I do love Drukqs...

but, to me saying a piece of music is packaged almost seems
like saying it was written with reaching a big audience, and
being "pop" in mind... I don't think that was the case with
Geogaddi... but, as far as promotion is concerned, you're
probably right... but really, once the music is completed,
what's wrong with some good promotion to try and get the
music out there... I can admit that Boards of Canada's music
is "easier" then Drukqs, and so Warp would obviously market
Geogaddi more then Drukqs, as there would be more chance to
reach more people...

a stew?

With this new-found information, the world's eggplant
growers will be nipping at my heels trying to keep up! I
will rule the planet's eggplant market!

yep i dont see anything wrong with the promotion and the
artist getting money for their work..but when it comes to
snobbish immature snotty fan in me..I dont want them to sell
out..

you can say that I am split..
