Is it *really* a toy?

A lot of people (mainly Reason users ;) ) are quick to
denounce Fruity Loops as a "Toy" and say that it is not a
serious music creation program.

I personally disagree - When you start playing around with
softsynths and VST plugins, the piano roll score and custom
instruments made in drumsyn there is a lot you can
do. I also think that the limitations fruityloops imposes
actually benefit you as they make you focus more and spend
less time on less important elements of the track.

What are your opinions on this?

I actually thought Fruity Loops was a breakfast cereal when
I first heard it mentioned here!

Hehehehe!

*Sorry......*

FruityLoops is the shit. I will probly still be using it 10
years, even though i probly have all the good
hardware-stuff. It has all the goodies, and it's right in
the tip of your fingers

Fruity Loops is by no way imaginable a mere toy

Could a Reason user (I'm not being aggressive here- just
interested) please tell me what it is that makes Reason so
much more "professional", apart from the price?

Fruityloops is the most flexiable piece of audio creating
equipment (software) that i've ever seen!!

its great!

I don't really see how anyone can justify describing
Fruityloops as a "toy". I use Fruityloops and Reason, and
although I'm currently using Reason more (just for a bit of
a change really), I would say that Fruityloops is the more
flexible piece of software by a long, long way.

Does anyone know of any "pro" artists who use Fruityloops?

i've been thinking of that myself. I actually think that
going pro with FL, requires a skill to change the
"standard-sound" of FL. I really think that it could be
possible

Fruit Loops is the King and the Queen and the entire royal
court...nay sayers are just jealous gearwhores who spent too
much on the "real" software and now are bummed that they
sound shit compared to a shareware

that Friuty Loops was amateurish and pretty basic, but now I
know better. I know of tons of professionals who use it!

I think it's because of the interface- most of the
functionality is hidden. You have to delve to find the good
stuff. It works well as it eases you in to using it...

Everyone takes the piss when I say I used Music 2000 on the
PS to create my music. Until they hear it that is. Whether
it's good or not I think I took the PS program to a new
optimum level, maximizing the abilitys and proving it is not
just a PS game. Comments or would you like to cuss my music
now you know where I made it?

less of it because of the s/w you used/

It's not a toy, it's a tool and a flexible one too. The
gearsnobs probably didn't explore the program enough or used
it for the wrong purpose. One program can't do everything.
Fruityloops has a great set of features for a good price.

The people who label fruityloops as a "toy" are the people
who have just forked out a fuck load of cash for there
equipment that fruity could do :P

Right on! I've only ever made music with the Music games on
the Playstation, and I think a lot of the stuff I've made
sounds very good.

I'm very very keen to hear your music Chri5py...

interface, its great, 'specially with the sampling kit you
can buy.... The poormans music making kit! LOL

Just been there Chri5py! And bookmarked your site for more
visits. I very much enjoyed Final Day, Kwork and Ekim
Project.

I really want MTV Music Generator for the PS2 but I can't
find it anywhere! Oh yeah, the chance to record your own
samples *drools*

I have one question. How did you get your tracks from the
Playstation to the computer? I would love to put some of my
stuff up in the web!

it's easy... get your self a scart output cable (for your
PS) which has audio cables attached near the opposite end of
the scart head. the scart goes in the tele and the cables
can be plugged into a small adapter. this should fit into
the "line in" socket in the back of the PC. Use Musicmatch
to record. Nearer the time of recording, email me and I'll
help you if you have probs...

Try Ebay for MTV MG for the PS2... That's where mins coming
from.

LOOK OUT FOR A DARKER ALBUM FROM ME WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR!

Almost.. my brother is Mike. Kay work was to do with someone
I know called Kay (Kate). The title is a mix of the two
songs these people inspired me to create; Mike and Kay, Ekim
Project (Mike Project) and Kwork (Kaywork)

yea? ;)

Last night I started (and nearly finished) a pretty good SAW
2 style track. Mainly 3 different softsynths, but loads of
background music going (very) very quietly that you have to
really listen for.

I read an article on synths yesterday which confirmed a lot
of what I had learned myself, but cleared up a few things.
It seems to have made my synth programming a lot better
"overnight". Can anyone recommend any good tutorials on
synth theory? URLs perhaps? Thanks :)

Hellfish, Dan Hekate, Somatic Responses, Heretik, and Sonic

I love the TS404, I used to only use simsynth as I found it
easier to get "nice" sounds out of it. However, I think the
TS404 is good for getting a wider range of types of sound
now that I've mastered (sounds a bit egotistical ;) ) it.
Which are other fruityloop users favourite softsynths?
