She's an electronic musician...did some film scoring as
well as sound generation using synth's back when u needed a
advanced degree in engineering to operate the frigin things.
They featured an unused song on the Shining DVD which was
never put in the final film, but was pretty cool. Anyone
have any of her stuff?

I don't, but you might like to know she was originally a
"he".

All I have is the soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange. I had
Switched On Bach 2000 but tossed it. If I can find the
original Switched On Bach i'd love to give it a listen.

Me too. (S)he belongs to the first generation of composers
to make breakthroughs in Electronic music.

i got the record he did just after switched on bach, same
things with other great composers, it's a hard work he did
with his moog on that. I was surprised to read one day he
changed sex short after switched on bach, the journalist
made a point with the influence the moog's sound had on the
mind of people, anyway Walter/Wendy Carlos made good use of
the moog back then.

Yeah, there was an excelent interview with Robert Moog a
couple of years back in THE WIRE and it demonstrated how big
is the influence of technology on modern music. Of which we
all are aware I guess, listening to IDM etc....

bitch/bastard is incredible, i love 'tron', 'the shining'
(i've heard the bootleg full score), 'a clockwork orange',
the collab w/ weird al (not even joking here), switched on
bach, and some of her other stuff like digital moonscapes (i
think that's the right title). one of the most important
people in the history of electronic music. underrated too.

i know (s)he did tron...i didn't however know she scored the
shining in full...is that on slsk? Its one of my favorite
movies, b/c its two movies in one :)
Totally didn't know about the sex change either.

dunno, i got it off audiogalaxy.. you're best off looking up
info on the (japanese?) bootleg score (ripped from the
master tapes) in order to get the track titles, then look
those up on slsk

Look this Wendy Carlos person had the audacity to sue Momus
because of a song he wrote about her. He eventually had to
take the song off his "Little Red Songbook" LP which is a
shame because the song licks major ass.

So a hardy boo to Wendy Carlos. I will never, ever
buy/download anything she's done.

Yeah, she used to be Walter Carlos

The only piece I'm familiar with is the "A Clockwork Orange"
score which is really interesting

...

Alright... maybe I'm stupid, but was Wendy a WALTER, once
upon a time? My ''sense of humor'' detector isn't working
right this evening.

Bitch/bastard?
(S)He?

Well, dick or not, I LOVE the Clockwork Orange soundtrack,
even if the synths sound a little dated.

I know, but I can't tell if you guys are joking or WHAT! I
have half a mind to go on google.com and find out! But then
I'd feel dumb. But I feel dumb already. Congrats, this
thread has officially driven me insane. It doesn't take
much!

Wendy Carlos Had nothing to with A Clockwork Orange. It was
a guy named WALTER Carlos...I have record or 2 of his...I've
seen pictures, He's definetaly a man...

Oh, and he was the also the guy that invented the Moog. He
used the prototype to make the scores for A Clockwork
Orange...

wow six you struck out two times there!
1. read the rest of the thread to find out what happened to
ol' walter
2. bob moog invented the moog, not walter carlos.

Clockwork Orange on. Like I said I have a record of his and
thats what it says...

soundtrack credit is given to 'walter and wendy carlos'

...i wonder if louis and bebe barron were the same person
too... hmm

no doubt (S)he had a hand in creating some of the
technology. (S)he went to Columbia and majored in
Music/physics. And at the time moogs were very popular and
only a hand ful of people got the chance to use and design
them...since then everythings gone to software or
digital///instead of analog

===
thats pretty freaky that they credited both Wendy and
Walter...personally though, i could give two shits about
that(sex change thing). yea it is kinda freaky...but If the
musics good i listen.
