i fucking love the kids stuff, it is just awesome, he is
definitely the most entertaining artist i have heard for a
while in this field IMO

i only heard his depeche mode remix, which was decent, and a
song called mp3 killed the music star or somethin which
utter and complete shite.

so it's hard to say

always found him a bit of a one trick pony - a bit too
ironic and not very exciting ...
it's a bit childish - matmos are better

Vsnares kicks Kid 606's ass. thats about the only good song
of his.

i don't see why you guys even compare 606 to matmos and
snares, 606 is totally unrelated. you'd be better off
comparing him to hellfish and bit meddler, and of those he's
by far the best. i mean you have to look at what he DOES to
make his music, not just how much you like it versus how
much you like some completely unrelated artist.

I see him as GWAR of electronic music..oooh I am demented..I
am scary..I am loony..oh I better put some music in
there..too..shit I am crap at it..oh well..never mind here's
some blasts of static..and a beat I stole from Alec

demented..I am scary..I am loony

i agree flea!
i saw him a few months back and i was hoping there would be
some gratuitous nudity and blood to peak my interest.
it was basically death metal being produced on a lap top for
two hours with this bald guy hyper bobbing his head out of
time.
ther ewas this huge screen playing animé which was alright,
but that is par for the course aaaat electronic shows these
days.
he is a bit off though.
i like some of his more laid back stuff>the ones w/o the
squeeling in it.
i have a few albums>think i was listening to ps i love u a
few days back> it's his best IMO but i can only listen to it
with nice big breaks inbetween.

A lot of bullshit on this thread

The song in question is called "MP3 killed the CD star" and
it's a plunderphonic mix putting eminem/ d12 along with NWA
and "Video killed the radio star" it's awesome.

Kid and Matmos are friends. They are parts of the same scene
etc.

Not all his releases are just bloody racket, though he's
good at makin it. Check out "PS I love you" to hear how good
minimal stuff he makes. Check out tigerbeat6 website for his
new ep, it's fantastic, you can hear parts of songs there.

"Action packed mentallist brings you the fucking jams" is
one of the best dance albums of this year. Plus it's very
funny.

606 does death metal on a laptop? or just that sort of feal
to it? If he does can you recomend an album he made like
this?

I actually think it's rather tragic how Matmos are
intrinsically linked to kid606..
kid606 is like tabloid compared to Matmos's poetry..

SD: try his album on Ipecac: Down with the scene. It's
bloody noisy but not really death metal type of noise.

Flea: Come on man, you sound snobbish to the max. Have you
even heard PS I love you?

BTW, didn't mean to disrespect you there.

And on the Vsnares thing: I see no similarities in Miguel
Depredo's and Aaron Funk's approach to making music. Save
for the fact that they both use fast breakbeats and
distorsion, everything else is quite different.

I think Action Packed Mentalist is pure class. Its smart,
funny and great listening. The remix of Kylie's 'Can't Get

heard in a long time. Its pornography as music.

speaking as a big big big 606 fan... and as someone who has
met him, and some others of his 'posse', like cex,
goldcahins an lsr, i have to say not only are they lovely
lovely people, also the music is tops! eg -
kid606 'down with the scene' the best place to start,
hiphop, d n b, ambient, all mashed up and glitched in his
own style. nigh on perfect!
cex - 'oops i did it again' yeah, ok, its influenced by afx,
but wot isnt these days? this is excellent idm, sweeeeeeeet
melodies one minute, crashing beats the next. superb
electric company '62-56' -autechre who? matmos who? fuckin
lovely!
...the missy elliot mashups that the kid does are just a
small part of the scene... he does gabber, tecnho, d n b,
hiphop, you name it... always brilliant! i have at least ten
606 albums - sad i know, but hey, this is an afx site,
right! ;-) - and i love them all. just hear his mix of nwa's
'staright outta compton' to hear what a remix should sound
like... my other fave is a 606 track called 'just another
kool kat out lookin for a kitty'... try it! ...you might
like it...

ta for reading...
peace.

i've got 'down wit..'
and 'ps i..'
and ps is quite nice.
someone mistook what i said.
the reason i have 'down..' is cuz my best friend who also
does musik loves 606 and i said, 'who?'
so he made me promise to go by the CD.
there is one awesome track on there, but i mainly listen to
it if i am in an angry mood.
fortunately, that is rare.
gonna check out cex....

Parts of Down with the scene are just noisy, angry racket.
But not all of it. It can't be reduced to just venting off
the amger. In an interview Kid himself said that he's
terrified of the idea that his music could be just a
soundtrack to somebodys's growing up.

only throw in the album if i'm angry!

i have only got kid606's "PS I love you" and it's amazing.
Minimal, glitchy techno that mixes extremly well with
Phonecia, Brotham States, Autechre etc. Dunno bout his other
stuff - the audio-porn etc, but i'm intrigued and from what
i've read in The Wire and here...kid606 is someone to never
right-off. His music, so far is BRILLIANT

hell yea, im gone for a day and my thread has some nice
following. excellent. i would suggest reading the kids
interview in grooves, it can be found at www.groovesmag.com.
for those of you that aren't really into him, this will
give you a better understanding at his approach to
electronic music and his thoughts about the scene currently.
it may even help you appreciate his stuff more. plus he is
damn funny. also, my friend is a huge kid 606 collector and
it seems that the kids more groove and less noise stuff is
usually the stuff that he only releases a few copies of,
really hard to find but nice work. peace, chris.
