Okay, so most of you will probably think this is a stupid
question, but it bothers me anyway...

Whenever I buy a CD i almost immediately remove the
price-stickers from the box, because they annoy me very
much.

BUT, i like to keep the "original" stickers... the one that
(i presume) the record-company puts there. Like for instance
on Druqks there is a sticker that says there are "30 new
tracks" on that album... i'm keeping that one.

So today I bought both "go plastic" and "my red hot car ep"
by squarepusher. And on both those cd's there is an almost
identical sticker on the back.

I have Go Plastic here next to me... it says:

80500852
squarepusher
go plastic
1
(barcode)

Now it's been bugging me if this is an "original" sticker,
or if the recordstore put it there? ;-) You can laugh if you
want, but if it turns about to have been put there by Warp i
wanna keep it... otherwise i'm taking it off :-p

lol! i came across the very same squarepusher sticker the
other day! well, i had removed it, but i was thinking the
same thing you are, doubting its origine and all... :)

youll be shocked to know that i take out the cd and the
front cover...and throw the rest in the trash

my go plastic was bought from a local record emporium, and
that had no stickers at all. i think you can peel without
regret my friend.

hm, if it was exactly the same sticker... it couldn't have
been a sticker from my local recordstore :-D

That settles it, it's staying on there ;-)

And yes Zeus, that does shock me! How do you keep your cd's
scratch-free without the jewelcase? And what about the
back-cover? it often contains the tracklisting! You throw
the tracklisting in the trash?

Crazy :-p

I treasure my cd's in their original casings!

but netlon sentinel found the same sticker!?

Probably the recordstore where you bought it (hannibal),
dropped your copy of go plastic or whatever, and replaced
the broken cover with a new (and thus sticker-free) one.

i bought it in leiden at plato or velvet, maybe it's the
same store?

i put the front cover and the cd in a large cd case

i dont have enough room to keep all the cases for all the
cds i have

and as far as track listings...

i just pop that cd into my iMAC, and it goes on the net and
automatically gets the track names off the net

surrounded, this topic made me laugh. I do exactly the same
thing. so you may be sad, but at least you're not alone :)

check out the design of other stickers on cds in the store
you got 'em from. if they look similar they'll be the store
stickers. probably the store stuck the wrong ones on one of
the cds you got.
if in doubt, keep 'em there. Or peel them off, attach them
to an easy-peel backing paper and put them inside the sleeve
inlay :)

what?! pumpkinland means holland?

:-p
I hadn't realized you were dutch. Yeah I also bought the CD
from Plato in Leiden. This changes everything! I now think
it's probably a Plato-sticker. However I also bought Music
is rotted one note and Maximum Priest EP yesterday, and they
didn't have that sticker.

I guess I'll have to do what xceque said and look at other
CD's @ Plato. Or make a fool of myself and ask someone
behind the counter about that sticker ;-)
But I have the same "if in doubt, keep 'em there"-policy. I
mean I can always peel it off later, but I'll never be able
to put it back just as neat as it is now.

Not having enough room is a pretty good argument...
cd-collections DO take an awful lot of space actually. But I
would never be able to make myself throw away the back
cover. I consider the entire cd-package a work of art. It
would make me so sad if I missed a part of it.

Zeus, I used to put the booklets in my CD "leather book
container thing" but they made the amount of space in each
sleave a lot tighter, and subsequently my cd's would get
scratched just by puting them in and taking them out. So I
stopped doing that, and luckily before I got into Aphex Twin
so all those CDs are still pristine! :)

yeah i thought you might have bought it in leiden, as you're
from alphen :)

peel it off, man. i did

offline surrounded from it won't be hard anymore to li on 2002-07-24 12:28 [#00322711]

eh?
So it is more like smashingpumpkinland? ;-)

Or am I missing a point here?

Anyways, yeah I have to go to Leiden for good music. Sadly
the best recordstore in Alphen is probably Free Record
Shop... nuff said... (sigh).

Also I E-mailed Plato about the sticker. So hopefully when
they reply we'll know where the sticker came from.

;-)

I'm still hesitating to peel it off... it reminds me of the
sticker on "2 remixes by AFX", and that sticker was pretty
much the entire artwork :-/ So I treasure that one.

It's nice to see other people also consider the CD-covers
more than just a way to wrap the cd's and think of them as
art! I'm still getting used to the minimalistic aproach most
IDM-artist use for their artwork... I used to listen to
alternative rock, and those albums always come with nice fat
booklets full of lyrics and stuff... it was somewhat of a
shock to find Aphex Twin and Squarepusher don't use more
than a single piece of paper...not a booklet. But I still
like them! The Go Plastic cover looks absolutely great in my
opinion :-)

you assume correctly, george :)

the art works are the only reason i buy cds, these days,
instead of just burning them to cdr.

emailing plato is close to exaggerating the whole thing, man
;)

I'm exactly the same!

When I got my drukqs promo the sticker was on the
shrinkwrap- not the jewel case so I carefully peeled it off
and put it on the case in the same corner it had been when
it was on the wrapping. :)

george is happy he was right ;-)

Yeah, awfully close to exaggerating, LOL
I know, but i can't help myself. I'd never forgive myself if
I peeled it off and later found it wasn't a plato-sticker.
But i realize it is rather silly... I opened up the tray
earlier today, to take out the backcover and see what was
under the sticker... just another barcode! :-p

Somehow it just doesn't feel "real" to me if I just have a
downloaded album burned to CD-R... I can only truly enjoy it
if i have the actual CD with the artwork!

You've been sucked into the artificial desire for authentic
commodities. I bet the record companies have a good wank
when they hear stuff like that.

when i bought NIN's downward spiral there was also a
shrinkwrap around that, with a sticker about the explicit
content (not the famous black and white one). It wouldn't
peel off, so I carefully cut it out with a pair of
scissors... To this day I've still kept it... neatly tucked
away inside the lyrics-booklet :-D
