there are so many releases by him... i'm confused, absolutely don't know what to choose to start with - _ '
the "threesome" coffrets are really nice, seem interesting, but maybe a bit expensive (even if it's justified because they're 3 cds each)...
what do you suggest?

if you' re a beginner, ease yourself in with the album Sheik yer Bouti, then just get individual albums, Zappamanias a curious thing, it could have serious effects on your life :) the live, Don't do that on stage series are good for an overall veiw, but theres loads, from Hot Rats (beefheart on willie the pimp is too much) to Apostraphee(sp?)
noooooooooooooooooooooo, don't get me started!!!!!!!!!!

I personally haven't heard that much, and mostly earlier Zappa, which is very "groovy" in its own way.
For a 60's Doo-whop piss take (and his first outings) i'd recommend "We're In It For The Money" and to a lesser extent "Freak Out"
But for the real Zappa Madness and Tapenology I'd Recommend "Lumpy Gravy" and/or "Hot Rats", both semi instrumentals ..

Uncle Meat is good, from 1969, the BEST year for rock... he's such a weirdo... I'm just getting into his stuff now, too, and it's overwhelming...

Ah yes, Opheck's, once you get past the piss taking factor (Were in it for the money was a legit pisstake of Sgt. Pepper) its all good. Quite strange indeed, but "oh so good" in its own way.

the guys just class, litteraly 100's of albums, Live at the Fillmore with the mothers is great, its just the injection of humor but with pure musical genius going on, then there's Beefheart too, too much.

and with beefheart fans and me, they cant understand that i just adore whats considered his "commercial" album, unconditionally garantied, i love it. and Trout Mask Replica as a whole is just a killer to get through, you can pick individual tracks from it, but i still cant listen to it all the way through.
