the best non-idm music

Aphex Only-Child from usa on 2001-07-31 22:02 [#00018929]

i dont know about you, but i need an eclectic base of music
to satisfy the many faces of my life. idm is a refreshing
art that is still very young and and tears away at the
preconceptions we have about music. however, music has a
past present and future just as we do. who are among your
favorite non-idm artists? begin.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-07-31 22:05 [#00018931]

Aphex Twin

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-07-31 22:07 [#00018933]

Just kidding, I listen to a lot of mid-school Hip Hop...

Tribe Called Quest
Jurassic 5
KRS-1
Gangstarr
Black Moon

among others...

I'm also into some Drum N Bass which isn't really IDM

AK1200
DJ Soulslinger
187
Konkrete Jungle

there's others...nothing comes to mind

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-07-31 22:17 [#00018936]

Bob Hund

Aphex Only-Child from usa on 2001-07-31 22:36 [#00018940]

cool. yeah i love all that as well. i am very interested in
the styles of breakbeat and turntablism in general. DJ
Shadow, in my opinion, created one of the best albums of the
90s, redefining the mood of the millennium. the others i
admire very much are: kid koala, anti-pop consortium, tupac,
twista, dj cam, abnormal psychology, timbaland, coldcut,
public enemy, bahamadia, the roots, afrika bambaata,
blackalicious, kool kieth, rahsel, coco and the bean, uh...

Aron? from Canada on 2001-08-01 00:15 [#00018949]

Non electronic artists, hmmmm....

A tribe called quest
Stevie Wonder
Beastie Boys
Radiohead
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Beck
Green Day
NOFX

There's tons more, but thoes are the ones I listen to the
most.

Thompson on 2001-08-01 00:28 [#00018952]

Rufus Wainwright; Sigur Ros; Beach Boys; The Doors;
Mortician; SSAB Songs; Richard Hell And The Voidoids;
Sebadoh; Slick Rick; Prince; and old NIN. That NIN track
from the Tomb Raider soundtrack sucks. And The Strokes
fuckin' suck too, I heard they were good. "they're gonna
bring back rock & roll" just like at the drive in. they suck
catpenis too. Do you like The Avalanches?

beep from uk on 2001-08-01 00:38 [#00018954]

the smiths rule

Beef Fog from io on 2001-08-01 01:36 [#00018970]

I'm a huge fan of NIN, and I too thought that the song he
did for Tomb Raider was terrible...

Organ Grinder from my own little fantasy world on 2001-08-01 01:39 [#00018971]

Walter Carlos (clockwork orange soundtrack)
Radiohead
System of a Down
Throbbing Gristle
Clint Mansell

Aphex Only-Child from usa on 2001-08-01 02:00 [#00018974]

cool. thanx or participating!

here's some more: avalanches, savath+savalas, sigur ros,
summer hymns, matmos, clinic, primal scream, mogwai, elliott
smith, john zorn, mouse on mars, godspeed you black emperor,
tortoise, radiohead, macha, yo la tengo, my bloody
valentine, migala, beck, slowdive, spacemen 3...

these are just a few of my faves at the moment. i know that
i am forgetting many, so help me out here.

Aphex Only-Child from usa on 2001-08-01 02:10 [#00018975]

i am also a big NIN fan and was extremely disappointed with
'deep'. man, back in the day i used to love NIN and
everything it stood for. but, now im wondering if trent has
reached his creative limit and is now going downhill. the
fragile was a great album, but it did not have that initial
appeal that separates NIN from the rest. nowadays, it seems
that anyone could match NIN as long as they have pro tools
and all the equipment. do you feel the same way? do you feel
that trent put himself up against the corner way too early?

PostModernVancouver from Vancouver,Canada on 2001-08-01 02:20 [#00018976]

David Bowie's the greatest muthafu**in artist of the last 30
years , he had a son called Aphex Twin.
Everyone else are just pretenders and disciples ( except
Eno, David Byrne ofcourse)

Atari Teenage Riot rocks the fucking house. I dont care if
their beats are not very original, they rock. Another fave
of mine is Thursday. They are the best emo band ive ever
heard besides The Appleseed Cast, The Casket Lottery, and
Jimmy Eat World............

D-Hex from KC Missouri on 2001-08-01 03:09 [#00018985]

Oh another band you guys might like is Euphone. They are
kinda jazz electronica type stuff.

Aphex Only-Child from usa on 2001-08-01 03:40 [#00018990]

i must apologize. i should have been more clear... rather, i
should correct myself. i am looking for the best music that
has no roots with electronica as we know it today (ie...
drum&bass, techno, idm). sorry!

and- are you sure about ALL of your choices, rephlex? imean
come on. bloodhound gang? kate bush? sneaker pimps? you're
joking, right?

radiowerkshop from canada on 2001-08-01 03:40 [#00018991]

radiowerkshop from canada on 2001-08-01 03:53 [#00018999]

i said i was sorry
i will stop fucking
i'm in the bag i've learned my lesson

Aphex Only-Child from usa on 2001-08-01 03:59 [#00019003]

i forgive you. come to daddy.

rob fragilenine from a warm place on 2001-08-01 04:14 [#00019008]

In my opinion The Fragile is an awesome album, but I agree
it's not as good as The Downward Spiral or Broken.

My favourite non-IDM/electronic bands:
:: Nine Inch Nails
:: 311
:: Tool
:: Mudvayne
:: Faith No More
:: Beastie Boys
:: Metallica (going down a bit now)
:: Fear Factory (hang on... they use electronics a bit
though..)

Bah.

Aphex Only-Child from usa on 2001-08-01 04:51 [#00019024]

i would have to disagree, mr fragilenine.

Digiphex from philly on 2001-08-01 06:36 [#00019037]

like Amon tobin, clifford gilberto, Dj food, and the

shit is pretty good

Transmission from Holland. Yeah! on 2001-08-01 06:48 [#00019038]

D U S T from I O W A on 2001-08-01 07:00 [#00019045]

aphex only,

One shouldn't be to serious right , sometimes there is
nothing like a little iron maiden-peace of mind, motley
crue-SHOUT AT THE DEVIL, bon jovi-slippery when wet, Europe
the final countdown. these records are alot of fun.

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-01 07:01 [#00019046]

Aphex Only-Child: no Iam serious! >:D

You see, the bloodhoundgang I have been listening to since
their FIRST album, which is really REALLY old. I hate their
new stuff. but their old stuff is good. Kate Bush is
alright, and worth a listen for sure. Sneaker Pimps?? Yeah
man they are wicked! There are more:

- Wutang {older = better+
- The Freestylers
- MC Navigator
- Mad Professor
- Method MAn
- Loads of Mp3 artists.

Oh geez I know more..

other things from the eighties?

Aphex Only-Child from usa on 2001-08-01 07:21 [#00019055]

a lot of that hair metal was really really bad. yeah it was
fun and all, but it really was just a lot of pulp and
aimless guitar solos. those guys had nothing to say at all,
except for a certain select. the crue were good back in the
day; ozzy w/ randy rhodes kicked ass; g n f'n r; new york
dolls rawked; slayer (does that count?). uh... i think thats
that.
