man... ive been listening to all their ablums all day, and
all last night

so FUCKING amazing

makes me want to cry

and heres a question... what are your guys thoughts on the
various names they have for people like Dj Shadow, Massive
Attack, Cinematic Orchestra, etc etc

trip hop, hip hop, downtempo etc.

i never know what I want to call it (and dont flame me for
talking about genre names... i know its not about the
name... im just curious )

trip hop sounds too media influenced, hip hop sounds too
rappy, and downtempo doesnt capture the essense imo

I haven't heard any of their stuff yet, but it
sounds like it's pretty good. I think I'll try to find some.

most people who make what is labeled 'trip hop' seem to
resent the title and prefer to have it called hip hop..of
course..its not conventional hip hop..and it mixes various
other influences in with traditional hip hop..so it recieves
a different label from those responsable for labeling
things.. (the press)

i consider dj shadow, portishead, tricky, NoW, massive
attack all to be hip hop...
and most of these artists have made statements dispelling
the 'trip hop' title..insisting that they just make a
different type of hip hop...which i guess is the same thing
as saying 'trip hop' ..but most artists tend to resent
labels given to them by the press..as they often imply the
comodification of their art...and usually sound dumb (and
are sometimes derogatory.. ie 'jungle')

cinematic orchestra seems to be more hip hop-influenced jazz
to me

cinematic orchestra are good at what they do....media
english terms probably mean less to the french.....I don't
mean that in a xenophobic way (you freaks), it's a
recognition for them.

yes, lovely! I like what little I have heard, and I like it
a lot! You should try "Tied and tickled Trio," and the
Nu-Jazz compilation.

they're actually Nu-Jazz.. for future reference...

tco is one of my favourite bands in the long run...
i fell in love with their sound when i heard "channel 1
suite" track on zentonedada sampler 1 compilation.
i can describe their moezeek as electronic jazz with
experimental touches here and there.
if you like TCO,get Flanger u'll prolly love their
experimental jazz.

mmmm..massive attack is pure trip hop, alongside with lamb
and portishead.
just the way trip hop is intented to be imo, dark and moody.
shadow is instrumental hip hop and tco is nu jazz like
mastah implied.

I saw them live, playing their soundtrack to "man with a
movie camera" alongside the film about a year ago.
Goosebumps all over. Incredible.
