Thanks to some help from Jand last week, I've finally got
Traktor to work on my laptop (thanks mate ;-))

It's the answer to all my prayers man! I've been looking
for a live laptop solution for ages, and I think this is it!
I think I may return to the live scene soon!

Get in!

By the way Spikee, I think Cylob's playing at World
Headquarters tomorrow night - are you going?

I don't think I am - no money, and work the next day. :(

Manic, Nope, I missed No Dexx too. :/ I just never get to
hear about all these gigs. I'm a very busy dragon. The only
reason i'm on here so much is thanks to my connection at
work.

Jand: Cheers mate. There's a chance that I may play a
low-key gig in Newcastle over the summer some time (depends
if my mate's band are playing). The drum and bass night I
used to play at isn't on again until September, so if I do
play anything big-ish, it won't be until then.

Spikee: I know what you mean. I wish I could go to Cylob!
I went to No-Dexx, which was quite cool. We need more of
these events in Newcastle.

its an mp3 mixing program isnt it?

manicminer, are u running it on a machine with 2 soundcards?
if not how are u getting 2 channels out of it?

offline jand from Braintree (United Kingdom) on 2002-07-17 21:48 [#00313304]

yeah, it's for mixing MP3s...

Aphex uses it when DJing....it's real popular with a lot of
laptop DJs....

You can get real creative with it & there's a lot of
realtime control...plus it does loads of shit for ya so beat
matching is easier etc....it's a smart replacement for
Winamp as well as it's database/playlist is a lot
better....

There's a demo version at Native Instruments site (can't
recall the link but should be easy to find if yu wanna know
more about it...)....

normally NI releases software for the mac before the PC.

Both your statements are rubbish!

It's far beyond pc dj

NI develop their software on PCs then convert to mac, the
only times they've done this is when they do a liscensing
deal with other developers eg Absynth....

How's it going nanotech? you look a bit shady...

pc dj came out WAY before traktor ever did, and reaktor and
absynth were made for the mac before pc.

I'm not discussing it with you...there's been plenty of mp3
mixers about for a long time, there's also been plenty of
software modular synth emulators about too. What is pc dj a
rippoff from? actually I am discussing it with you....

do u have to have 2 soundcards to mix with traktor? surely
you do?...

Hi Chapman

No, you don't need 2 soundcards. What you can do is to
assign one stereo channel to be the PA (Master), and one
channel to be the monitor (i.e. what you would hear through
your headphones). Admittedly, this means that your mixes
are only in mono, but personally that doesn't bother me in
the slightest.

Jand helped me with setting this up. Basically, in Traktor
you go to "setup" and then in audio under the "one sound
device" heading click on "Master & Monitor 2 x Mono", and
obviously select your soundcard where it says "device".

This should work. It worked for me with a laptop with an
on-motherboard (i.e. not very good) soundcard.

I havent' heard of so many mp3 mixers...only a few that has
a simular layout as pc dj...traktor.

Your second point sugests that i feel that just because they
do the same basic function that means that they are
rippoffs. Infact that only mirrors how you must precieve
ppl, god ol' mighty. I worship you! HEY ZEUS!!!!!!!! SOMEONE
IS TRYING TO BE GOD!!!!! GET UR ASS IN HERE AND RECLAIM YOUR
THRONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I like traktor and can save enough, I'll probably buy an
extigy soundcard so I'll have 2 soundcards - stereo mix
ago-go! I like stereo for doing fun panning stuff. I managed
to get rebirth working with my surround sound and it was
great to have the synth going back and forth across the room
with the drums pounding from the sub :)
