analog vs. digital

i have mostly come to the realization that poor
college/highschool/bum kids can not afford anything but a
nice phat-ass computer & a very nice interweb connection.

seeing that most of us on this here board listen to
"electronic" music... blah blah... idm, drum'n'bass... etc,
do you think that the artists behind the music are changing
the way 'most' music is played? i mean, you look at RDJ &
see that when he "performs" live, he sits behind a laptop
staring at it... like it will fly away or some shit... when
you look at a shit butt-rock band like creed... they play
their stupid songs to mind-less dumb fucks...

so...

do you think that the majority of artists enjoy analog
instruments or digital instruments?

I love the warmth of analog and the crunch of digital...

im not sure what you where getting at in the first
parahgraph of your post...

but as for as the question goes...

id say any smart musician knows the pros and cons of both
analouge and digital... and they use them both accordingly

digital makes your life easier....

imagine: every spund you hear would be generated be analog
synths, what you d'you would hear ?:808. so it depends on
different styles ? i'm sure richard has used digital and
analog generators for the selected ambient works albums.
sorry i'm drunken and i just write some texts from my
feeling now, and i'm listeningto railwayraver now. maybe i
haven't answer your question, but today have to life with
both things, analog and digital. analog rule for fat sounds
but it's scientifically proved that you can translate an
analog sound into a digital sound..... trust me, in these
day you can do everything.

and my english still sucks .

I'd say people who stay in like digital

Those who go out(side) appreciate their analogue.

Hopefully we all do a bit of both.

currently all digital for me... but its for 2 reasons...

1. not enough money to get any analouge
2. digital is alot easier to use, and can be manipulated
more

i will definatly get some analouge stuff when i have the
money !

Analogue is a way of life.

Digital is too inpersonal.

um...
you seem to be comparing "real" (acoustic,
"play-it-yourself" instruments) as opposed to synthesised,
sequenced (MIDI/computer) instruments.
I think that the majority of popular artists are trying to
sound most like the "real" variety, and they prefer to use
whichever technique upholds their image best (albeit, in the
case of "real" bands like Metallica, with the aid of
devices, in the studio or onstage, that "correct" or make
more palatable their playing.)

as far as analogue or digital synths, I think the
overwhelming majority of artists are using digitals -
they're much more portable and practical, and can easily
reproduce analogue sounds.

and me? only analogue kit I have is a 606 and I loved it
until it stopped working. only other analogue gear I want is
an SH-101, maybe an outboard filter, and a space echo.

This topic comes up all the time :)

I think it's a matter of taste, they both have good and bad
points.

Digital or analogue doesn't say anything about quality, it
all depends on how well the "digital" device is programmed
and how good the "analog" parts are.... Digital gear tends
to be a lot more practical to use, it's cheaper and
generally more flexible and versatile. So I pick digital.

I like plaids mixture, and they put it all through an
analogue mixing desk to put that organic feel back in (or so
they said in Future music :D)

it should never IMO come down to one of the other unless for
reasons such as resources and money

but recording artists with budgets must use digital
technolgy

I have a Juno-60. For those of you who don't know, it's a
completely analog synth, except for it's digitally
controlled oscillators. I feel like I'm playing a real
instrument with analog sounds, but you can do some amazing
things with digital.

I would like to get a Juno-106, but I want a synth that can
produce strings that aren't so friggin' bassy. I want ones
that make strings like in Acred Avid Jam Shred. Will a Juno
Do that? If not, what synth will?

Hmmm... Analog and Digital. By the way, does anyone know
which way is the RIGHT way to spell analog(ue)? Is it spelt
like RDJ does it: Analogue, or like this: Analog? Hmm.
Anyway, have you tried using a bubblebath with the analog???
(*joke*). Sorry, I really don't know the answer. I'm just
trying to get points.

toejam : it's a nationality deal. if you're in most
English-speaking countries, you say "analogue". if you
suffer from ASS (American Spelling Syndrome), you say
"analog". same as:
colour, color
realise, realize
licence, license ;)

I'm sorry Marlowe, I was tired and I went to bed. Anyway,
Quoth got you covered, because that's where I would've told
you to go.

Juno-60s are really underated, so they sell for pretty
cheap. I got mine for $300 with a stand, so yeah.

QUOTH: I love my Juno-60 as well. It's an amazing synth. =)

funny thing... a lot of digital devices have features that
allow you to put analogue effects into the sound.

...like offsetting the beats to sound more natural.

still, my favourite "analogue" synth will always be my
shitty, cheap poly800 :)
it can run on batteries, and its filter is monophonic and
behaves a bit strangely. it's even got a 256-step sequencer.
it's like the perfect keyboard for taking out into the
forest with a pair of headphones!
too bad it's broken. I'll go buy another!
