Right, feel free to shout at me and call me an idiot but - though I do really like SAW 85-92 - it is probably my least favourite RDJ release. Maybe its cos I'm young and didn't appreciate it at the time it came out. Anyone got any views on this? (ps - tracks 8 and 9 are still fucking amazing, though!)

it's very good but i don't listen to it very often, because it makes my ears hurt.
more than ventolin, greenways trajectory, gantz graf, or any other wicked track.

It's easy listening-AFX, but great anyway. Perfect if you have visitors who's not really into AFX.

Back in the day, that CD didn't leave my walkman for more or less a whole year....
These were the days when there was very little other AFX around...
(And I still love that CD...THA is my fave but I'n still very fond of the others..)...

Shout at you and call you an idiot? Nah, I don't think anyone would do that here (unless you made broad, sweeping generalizations, like Digital Messiah).
I don't like SAW 85-92 very much either. I find myself listening to that and 'Classics' the least.
That's not to say that I don't enjoy at least a few tracks off of SAW 85-92 though. Xtal of course, Tha, I, and there are two more that I can't remember at the moment.

I think that SAW I is the perfect album to play for someone who wants to get into electronic music but doesn't know where to begin.
It's still one of the best releases of Richard's career IMHO. Sleepy time music.

I think if you were into electronic music around the late eighties and early ninties the album would have a lot more relevance than if you are a post - Come To Daddy - Aphex Twin addict :)

Its all way better than 90% of DrukQs. People who love come to daddy, drukQs and windowlicker > but not ICBYD, SAW and AB : are lesser beings . wee kids, mainly.
I'm 64.

SAW 85-92 is a good CD, however IMO SAW II is a GREAT CD. there are some stand out tracks on 85-92, but as a whole it doesn't flow as well as SAW II!
btw....tis NOT crappy! *slap* =0)

It's pretty fucking awesome. Some pretty lo-fi, old sounding stuff at times... especially Ptolemy. But Tha and Xtal and some other tracks sound pretty flawless and timeless.
We Are the Music Makers sucks my white ass, though. I fucking hate it. Stupid Willy Wonka.
