to all biosphere fans
i just got cirque today and its brilliant
somebody mentioned a while ago that its going to be
difficult for jenssen to do a record as good as substrata
i think this is even better
so if you like biosphere i highly recommend cirque

I think it will be impossible to top THE WORLDS best ambient
cd which is substrata. It had so much emotion / landscape
in it. Incredible. Do you have Cirque downloaded? If you
do can i get it off you?

substrata is my favourite ambient cd as well
but cirque is at least as substrata
in fact i liked subtrata so much i bought every record by
jenssen i could found-so now i think i have every official
album jenssen released as biosphere
i have cirque on cd, but if u want i can transform tracks
into mp3's
but its going to take a while

sure if you could do that that'd be great. then get on soul
seek if you have that and i can get it from you there

mp3's are done
i've got soul seek but im not too familiar with it
so it would be probably faster if you use icq
but im going to try with soul seek anyway

haha..nice try ;P

yeah, it's biodome!

anyway, personally, i also prefer cirque to substrata. ive
been listening to shenzou on mp3, and im thinking of buying
the album. biosphere is the god of ambient, along with
aphex's saw2.

Points: 2849 Status: Lurker

im not sure biosphere is the god of ambient...maybe the
jesus...but brian eno will always be the ambient god

his 'man with a movie camera' on the 2 disc substrata is
also rather nice

What about his latest Shenzhou?

Yall like that one?

I think its GREAT...hmmm sometimes I even like it more than
Substrata.

shenzhou is also very nice, but u should hear cirque because
this one is great
i also prefer patashnik over shenzhou
tho all of this records are awesome

yeah, true. i overlooked eno, he really is the god of
ambient. biosphere is 2nd. still, not bad at all! ;)

I have them both and I'm going to have to say that Substrata
still comes out on top. It's a more cohesive piece that
flows beautifully from track to track - pure ambient bliss.

On Cirque, tracks like "When I Leave" and "Algae and Fungi"
disrupt the ambient proceedings. Still good just not pure
ambient.

Substrata is still #1 in my books.

I better check Cirque!!!

I only got Sub and Shen...patashnik, is that his first
album?

offline Archrival on 2002-07-11 19:53 [#00306139]

I just heard Shenzhou all the way thru (havent heard it for
a while....hmmm it wasnt as good as I remember it hmmm
pretty average... 3 out 5 but maybe im not in the mood fo
sum ambient (puts Go Plastic in the STERE0 =)

is substrata something you'd reccommend to someone who isn't
really into ambient? What I mean is, I'm not a huge fan of
ambient, but have heard good things about this and have been
interested in checking it out... should I?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-07-02 06:58 [#01263241]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

well, it's one of best ambient albums around, but if you're
not into ambient it probably won't mean much to you.
although, i think this record got me into ambient, so it
might do the same to you...amn i bought hundreds of ambient
albums since then :)

if you're going to get it, get the 2cd version with
additional disk "man with a movie camera".

Bioshpere had a collaboration with Deathprod on the album,
Nordheim Transformed. Very stark album. Then there's his
newest, Autour de la Lune. The most minimal thing he's ever
done.

im listening to "autour de la lune"...it's extremly
minimalistic, actually if it was more minimalistic there
would be no sound :)

the first track sounds good though...and it's 21 minutes
long!

overall, very minimalistic and dark.

yeah, my favorite is the one with just low bass rumblings.
Makes me feel like I'm orbiting the dark side of the moon.

Yes, I noticed. The first and the last track sound similar
and I couldn't hear "Disparu" at all on the
computerspeakers... not the best way to listen to this album
I must admit :)

I listened to the first track through my headphones and my
head was still vibrating from it long after I finished
listening

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-07-09 07:27 [#01271316]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

heh, yes, "disparu" is very speaker demanding...hmm, must
turm my volume way up to hear it properly :)

mertens, you're probably thinking of "invesrse"...it has
that bass rumblings and then by the end some "space" sound
is added.

i bet this album would sound great in some ice cave
somewhere in north pole :)

Shenzhou was the first one I heard, and it was one of those
really refreshing records that you immediately find
something in it that makes you keep listening, i listened to
it almost exclusively for a few days, it's good.

I then tried substrata, and didn't like it as much, except
track 03 - chukhung is a classic.

From listening to shenzhou, my favorites are 01 - shenzhou,
08 - path leading to the high grass, 09 - fast atom escape
