How did you get into Radiohead?

Ok, so a lot of people here have said they were exposed to
Aphex Twin partly by way of Radiohead, so what got you
radiohead fans into radiohead, or how did you get into
them?

With me it must've been back in 96 or so, it was after The
Bends was released, but before Ok Computer... I had heard
Creep from Pablo Honey, and probably High and Dry at this
time, but then one night I caught a spotlight on Radiohead
on Muchmusic... They played High and Dry, Fake Plastic
Trees, My Iron Lung, and Just, and I thought they were
great... High and Dry and Fake Plastic Trees were what
sealed the deal... so anyways, I bought the album and I
must've listened to Fake Plastic Trees 50 times that first
night, I was so impressed by it I guess... heh, actually now
that I think about it I believe my mom took the cd away from
me because she didn't want me buying any more cds at the
time... so yeah, for ages The Bends was my favorite album,
and then Ok Computer came out and it became my favorite
album... after Ok Computer I was officially hooked!!! And
Kid A and Amnesiac just reaffirmed to me how good these cats
are!!! :)

But it's cool though, cause no matter what Radiohead did
since I first got into their music, Fake Plastic Trees is
still my favorite song of theirs... I just listened to it
and it sent chills through me... fantastic stuff!!!

my two favorite moments in any Radiohead songs:

Fake Plastic Trees: Towards the end where he sings "You look
like the real thing, you taste like the real thing, My fake
plastic love!!!" Oh my!!!

Karma Police: Towards the end where he sings "Phew for a
minute there I lost myself!!!" This is fantastic...

Radioheads first taste of electronica was an LFO remix of
Planet telex from the bends, it's on a B-side of
something...that I can't remember..

I remember one time playing Airbag for a teacher of mine in
high school... he was into stuff like Bruce Cockburn and
classic rock, and he thought it totally sucked!!! :)

i think a little after the bends came out I started liking
them because of creep but never bought the album for many
years. ok computer was 1st I bought as soon as it came out.
i then got bends, then pablo honey then all the newer ones
in order.

Believe it or not, I was into Aphex Twin before I was in to
radiohead. My sister actually got me into them, but it was a
while after I began listening to Aphex Twin.

I was also way into Aphex before I ever heard anything of
Radiohead's. But then on some thread a bunch of you people
were saying Idioteque was one of your favorite songs so I
had to check it out.

id heard of aphex twin from nin's further down the spiral

I was into aphex twin as well zephyr..It was 2 summers ago,
I was in scotland, and i had been meaning to buy OK Computer
for awhile since in the past i had borrowed it from a friend
and it blew me away..Strangely, when i got it at a sale in
scotland, i listened to it and it didnt sound anything like
i remembered..it actually was better before, heh, but now
it's one of my favorite albums by anyone (though i think i
like kid a more, but it really depends..) I then found bends
used and was overjoyed, and just kept on buying their
stuff..

offline Ross from Canada on 2002-07-09 02:26 [#00302214]

Oh yeah, i also used to think radiohead would never go
electronic..at the time i thought ok computer was about
fear of technology and that radiohead would never embrace
technology, i know sounds stupid, but i considerably in a
different mindstate then

MachineOfGod: Further Down The Spiral was also my
introduction to Aphex. Then I bought RDJ Album, and it went
from there!

actually, ironically, mtv got me into radiohead. i sort of
liked all ready liked radiohead, i had the bends and creep
was the one song i actually requested on the local
alternative station in southern california (bastards never
played it ...). but mtv used to have this show 12 angry
viewers that reviewed new videos and they were watching
either paranoid android or karma police. this one guy was
just raving about ok computer and said it was like
radiohead's dark side of the moon. when he compared it to
floyd, i was sold and bought it the next day. i worshipped
that album and then kid a came out ... both are tops

Depthcharge, Hexadecimal, and Karma Sutra or something like
that.

ok, so i did a little investigating on followmearound.com,
and here's what i found:
Fake Plastic Trees Single:
02. Planet Telex (Hexidecimal mix)
High and Dry CD2
04. Planet Telex (l.f.o. jd mix)
High and Dry 12"
02. Planet Telex (Osborn mix)
03. Planet Telex (Mo-wax mix)
a Different High and Dry 12"
03. Planet Telex (Hexidecimal dub)
Just CD1
02. Planet Telex (Karma Sunra mix)

so i can't find the depth charge version :/

I can't stand Radiohead. That "I'm complaining while I
sing" voice has never done it for me. I hated the Cure and

I read about them in Rollingstone or something, about Kid A.
That was the first Radiohead album I got into, I bought it
on the day it came out. I had The Bends for a couple years,
but I didn't like it for some queer reason. They just got so
much praise that I FORCED myself to get into them, and thank
God I did... Kid A made me buy OKC a few days later, then I
paid attention to The Bends and saw its brilliance.

I never got into Radiohead. I hate them. They're shit.

Completely over-rated, pretentious, unoriginal and dull
music-to-slit-your-wrists to.

First they ripped off Nirvana, now they rip off Aphex Twin.
They're a pile of steaming toss, and the lead singer's a
whining twat.

And why, like a lot of our British singers, does the
Radiohead singer put on an American accent despite the fact
that he's English? What's the point? He's fucking
English.

I suppose that's why they've been successful in America. If
he'd sounded English, the vast majority of Americans
wouldn't have got into it. Controversial, I know.

first got into radiohead in 94, after hearing creep at all
the parties i went to.

in 94 i only listened to gabber and what was simply called
hardcore (oldschool now i guess), back then, and hated rock,
but there's just something about radiohead that makes them
special:)

i still hate rock, but i love radiohead.

I counldn't disagree more. MTV and MTV2 use fake english
accents in there commercials because the UK is regarded as
underground and cool or something. I don't know what, but
they do it for sure. Same on MuchMusic and BPM in Canada.
Dance or techno parties always have someone with a fake
british accent.

Oh, and I have never thought of slitting my wrists to
radiohead songs.
