i really love the unstructred stuff such as the begining of
windowlicker and the second song off the windowlicker single
which has some weird name. does anybody know which is the
best album for stuff like that? or any other artists who do
that kinda stuff?
i know this message will sound pretty gay for u die-hard
aphex fans but hey i need knowledge

aphexpert: that's clever.
i'm not really sure. it kind of reminds me of some of the
stuff on druqks, though.

well.... it really does sound as if you need a dose of
Autechre, especially their Confield-album.

i have druqs, come to daddy and aphex classics plus the
windowlicker single.............i like them all but i really
love the unstructered sounds in them 2 particualr songs.
it's what first got me into aphex. are there older albums
full of stuff like that or other artists that do similar
stuff?

actually i have confield, but find it quite repetitive

AND, you also should look into Brothomstates. They are a bit
"cleaner" than auetechre, but have this really
diffuse/unstable beats and i really love them alot...

Yeah.

Autechre - Confield
Autechre - ep7
Brothomstates - Claro

Happy hunting m8

try to download the song 'perc#6', it's on a compilation
called "or some computer music" it's by aphex twin and maybe
closer to what you seek than confield (wich i find a bit too
repetitive too, but only certain songs, the rest is genius)

GG is incredible, but sounds nothing like aphex or autechre
well maybe old aphex like saw85-92 mixed with melodies from
mars :-)
it's one of my personal favourite composer in electronic
music, there's something really special about his music, you
must check it out :-D

You used the word "unstructured" to summarize the element
that you seek in music. It's hard to pinpoint logically let
alone with words exactly what makes something sound good
maybe. It might even be that these tracks have a grander
more realized thought out structure than a lack of one.
Windowlicker is actually pretty... linear, the sound units
are spaced evenly in a "normal" beat, but there are times
that an extra sound unit is added to expand the pattern etc.
It's the rich sound quality that mostly attracts me to that
track. The equation track is just mad. Anyway, I like these
two tracks relatively higher than simpler structured stuff
like analogue bubblebath etc too. So maybe try albums I also
like:
crunch "1"
autechre "lp5"
otto von schirach "8000 bc" (actually try this one first
since it's structure is quite abnormal and
complex/intricate/grand)
My music is at www.mp3.com/artificialselection Tracks like
"a fractal brewing of fraggles" are structured weird.

i wouldnt call the begginin of Windowlicker unstructered at
all...

and how long of the begginin of equation? that first 5
secs... or longer?

w M w... nice self plug there... :)

oh

check out gescom - mini disk... thats about as unstructered
as possible

Perhaps "non-repetitious" is what you're really looking for?
Well I plugged my site since I've also been interested in
non repetitious music. I don't know why people are so
concerned about communicating their music to others
anyway... it's not like there's any potential monetary
profit anymore, especially not to account for all the
pointless spamming that goes on in the mp3.com messageboard.
I guess it's just sharing something that one finds
interesting to others with similar interests. Same reason
people make books and share their ideas.

i was just kidding with you man

i plug my stuff too. i like to hear peoples thoughts, who
are actually into the same music i listen to... (dont know
many people in real life who like IDM)

Ambient music is relatively less structured probably since
it has no rhythm of sound bursts like drums. White noise is
unpredictable all the time, but the average median (mean
median mode, one of those anyway I think) results in
interpreting it as boring noise.

it was released on minidisc...and is made up of a tone of
really short sample/songs..because it was meant to be
listened to in shuffle...that way every time you listened to
it, it would be different

akademi...get aphex's richard d james album..its mostly
non-repetive beats..in a similar style to the equation
track...but more melodic

I've still never heard this gescom release, sounds like a
great shuffle concept.. are the tracks not simpler in
structure relative to lp5, more like incunabula (I love the
track bike though)

again... i was just kidding around with him

it was jsut kinda funny how he listed 3 big artists, and
then ended with himself.

i wasnt saying it was wrong... i just thought it was
funny.

again, i plug myself all the time.

akademi- ignore everyone else here (sorry ;) u should get
Jamie lidell- Muddlin gear....its idm/noise....i hate
repetitiveness (thats why i hate autechre, its All
repetetive) but muddlin gear is great, keeps changing all
along, and he doesnt resort to dril n bass when he runs out
of ideas, unlike so many artists....
