My own record label...?

I was talking with my parents tonight, and they said they'd
be willing to front the money to pay for a cd pressing of
1000 copies, to sell online, and to whoever, so I can get my
name out. Id just have to pay them back the cost of the cds,
but after that Id get to keep any profits.

However... they seem to not understand my point of view.

My dad wants it to be a compilation, with all ranges of
styles (I write ambient, IDM, trip hop, techno (NOT ALOT...
JUST SOME FOR FUN!..... shut up)

but I was trying to tell him that I dont want to do
that...because people wouldnt want the slew of different
styles... it needs consistancy...

And some of it I just dont want released (like the techno
stuff... hehe)... I have an ideal im going for...

Im having trouble explaining this to him...

any suggestions on how I can get him to understand?

I want this to be like the equivilant of my first album...
not a compilation of every style ive ever written...

make sense?

Tell him that you want the album to be unified, not just a
mish mash of various shit

it would be like a pro quality... jewel case... cover w/art
grpahics on the cd itself

not just some junk cdr with print outs...

my enterprise class in high school made a cd compilation of
local bands, and it's a pretty professional job done on
it... I forget how many copies we printed, and how much it
costed, but we did it... :)

im gonna make a website, and spread the word about it all
over the net

and then to friends

and people at school ( i go to a music school)

i might even try to put it in local record stores... stand
on the street... anyway to get it out really...

Well, If you do ambient, it's a must to put out some vinyl
too. Whatever it is, whatever format, put me down. If you
do both CD and vinyl, put me down for both.

what you need to do is release only 500 copies of your cd
(one for me) and then never release it again, and then down
the road when you're signed to Warp we'll all start
auctioning our copies on Ebay for thousands of dollars!!! :)

sweet!

but why ambeint on vinyl?

funk: is this gonna benifit me in getting signed... or
benifit you... on the chance i get big... and you cash in on
it... ;)

just explain to him that you want to make an ALBUM
you want it to be cohesive... so it works as one big piece
of art!

not JUST a collection of songs..
