How many of you out there would like to be in some sort of
music career, anything from playing music to working for
record labels or being a musician's agent? Any1 in one now?

I would either like to be a solo artist and do IDM, or get
together with a band and either do Indie Rock, Funk, or
IDM.

On that note, I have a band but I'm still trying to persuade
my bandmates to let us become one of those 3 things ;)

and I also realize that its hard to make a career out of
music, so I had planned on doing computer programming full
time and music on the side.

Thoughts?

would love to be a musician, unfortuantely i never learnt
music and i doubt i have any talents ...i wrote a few
tracks, they're quite crap so far, even tho i did improve..

i've been trying to learn music theory but its quite
complicated, i'll keep trying, even if i dn't have a music
career it can be just a hobby,,making music that it..

Thats cool Salma, just keep with it, always keep with it,
and you will eventually be a good musician, I promise you.
It worked for me (on guitar at least, and I'm not saying im
a great guitarist, but capable) :)

well I plan on making a living on music.
composition probably. hopefully electronic stuff. my
writing right now is pretty bad and my 'gear' leaves
something to be desired but first thing I need to do is get
an education.

First off, I'm not talented enough to have it as a career,
but at some point if it was a possibility that might be
cool. I think I'd love to be a solo IDM artist, but there's
tons of talented people on this board alone, so I don't
quite take myself seriously.. At this point, I'm doing it
because I like to do it, and I like the stuff I'm producing,
and if either of those things ever changes I'll probably
stop doing it.

Thats cool Dozier, I'm right there with ya. Do you have any
songs on a webpage anywhere? I'd like to hear 'em, if you'd
like to share 'em. ;)

i would love to do music as a career! i'd really love to be
in a band also. but noone around here is really interested
in the kind of music i'd like to play. but the idea of
having a full-time career in music makes me cream.
*tee-hee* ;)

Definitely, all my stuff is on my web page xSquared.org,
as well as shared on Soulseek (username dozier).

What about you? I've been collecting stuff done by people on
the board..

I am goin to the Berklee College Of Music in Boston.

Its a contemporary music school. Jazz, Rock, Pop,
Electronic, and some Classical etc.

Im doin a duel major in Composition and Synthesis.

I play the electric bass, and I used to play the drums. I am
learning piano too.

I most definatly will have a career in music. It may not be
exactly what I am hoping for... but you never know.

My goal is to get signed to Warp, and release music until I
die.
Id also like to do some film scoring, write some Symphonies,
and various other projects. Being in a band is also an
option.

But in the music industry, you just gotta take what you get.
Its hard.

If you're curious about my music, you can check it out
here

Ive just finished my first year with a 3.6 gpa. I begin
several synthesis classes in the fall, although im self
taught for the past 5 years. Still much to learn though.
I also took theory lessons in highschool. Along with private
Bass instruction.

Music is the only career I will accept. its the only career
i want.

brendan: is that you holding a guitar in your avatar? What
type of music would you like to create a band of? I think
I'd like to jam with you some time (if that was a
possibility =p)

i'm gonna do it along with my other career. it'd be like a
kinda side career for me.

have another job besides a music career!

haha, nah brendan, but I can understand your concern judging
by my avatar and criminal record (j/k) ;)

But dude, I'm terribly terribly sorry, I just got
verification from my friend and its South Carolina that we
might have gone too, but at this point we probably wont
anyway, so you wont have to feel bad for me being so close
;)

in any aspect of the music field, although certain choices
would be cooler than others.

Deathsmith: I wanna hear your stuff too! =)

Rereading that post kind of fueled my own desire to get into
a music major.. I'm currently in Digital Media.. but they
are thinking of expanding it to include a track called
"Digital Music Tools," and if they do, I think I'm
definately gonna do that. Actually for quite some time I
have known that a career in music is the only that I
really desire, but have been doubting my own
ability.. But I believe in myself now and I'm at least going
to give it one hell of a shot.

music is the only way forward for me.......

If I don't get signed I suppose I'll just end up being some
wierd guy with long hair & a fucked up nickname who'll be
mocked by the towns folk when out in public.
