I think if nostalgia was one of my main reasons for liking Boards of Canada I wouldn't think that much of their music... I love their music for other reasons... I find eighties pop music very nostalgic, and so I do enjoy it a lot, but I know it's pretty cheap music... enjoying something for nostalic reasons, and enjoying something for deep emotional reasons are two different things... |

Lol, yeah, rawk on!!! And I'll add though that I listen to EVERY kind of "techno/electronica". That includes house, acid house, progressive house, break-beat, ambient, chillout, trance, intelligent dance music, drill and bass, drum and bass, tech-step, and everything else I'm too lazy to name :-P |

i tend not to get very nostalgic...well..i guess some songs will make me nostalgic for like a year or a few months in the past...but i tend to get more nostalgic for my imaginary future that hasnt happened yet...but in the same way that people get nostalgic for the past...i guess i dont really see whats so great about nostalgia anyways...idealizing a past that wasnt really that great |

when i wanna feel nostalic i often listen " Neil Young - after the gold rush" it has a good melody and cool young's voice. it is diffrent from electronic music ,. but i highly recommend it. |

in a very deep interpretation of V. snare's track "unborn baby" i find a type of nostalgia desctuction. It's when the loops from Michael Jackson's beat it plays, and snares layer's those gabber kicks and the lyrics...the M.Jackson loops are soooo nostalgic to me, but the gabber, and the distorted/feedback drenched lyrics just smash it all away. As if it's taking me to childhood, and before my mind can settle down, it changes the mood into violence. Like as if the "baby (the nostalgia)" is "unborn (the whole before my mind can say 'ah, i remember/used to love michael jackson,' but it get stripped out of my mind's grasp.)" but snares seems to have a very simple vibe to his personality, and i tend to look very deep into music and see my own reflections. It's just that somethimes the meanings behind the music are SOOOOO boreing/lame, or just flat out non-existant. |
