Thoughts on Windowlicker...

Yes, I am actually capable of thought...

Now then, let's get on with it. With this... THOUGHT. How
can people (I won't name names, because I don't remember who
said it) call this an MTV calibre track? Jesus Fucking
Christ, it sounds DEMENTED.

And yet, I've heard people refer to it as APHEX POP?!?!?
Craziest ''pop'' song I'VE ever hear, lemme tell ya. The
first time I heard those insane female singers, I was
freaked out, and the song itself is just... insane. Lots of
freaky sounds and that HARDCORE ending. This is not
accessible, I think... MTV pop my ass... it's MOCKING pop,
yeah, but I think it's got just the right dose of madness in
it. It's weird and creative, and those singers are just one
of a kind. Simple beat for Aphex, yeah... but still
effective.

That wacky French girl in the middle during the break...
that's not something you'd hear in pop... I think she sounds
frighteningly displaced from the rest of the track. Freaks
me out. So there. Bucko.

And I prefer Jill Hennessy straddling me in bed, but you
don't always get you want.

yeah, it's making fun of mtv-friendly music, rap & r'n'b
pimps... i think rdj also just wanted just to have fun, it's
a funny, enjoyable song — perfect for summer btw :)

But the thing is, I always thought it was doing more than
just ''taking the piss'' or being ''funny and enjoyable''...
it scares the bejeezus out of me! Those voices! That ending!
BLARGANFLARGAN!

I agree ophecks.
And i don't think RDJ put that much thought in it like "now
im gonna do a pop song" , i think he just let it come like
"wow it really sounds cool when i arrange these voices like
this!!!" or something....
And the mocking with RNB Hip Hop is just Cunninghams video ,
the song itself has nothing to do with RNB.

Hmmm. Still, its catchier than his other songs, and i DID
actually see it on MTV once....

One of my favourite aphex twin tracks, i must admit, corny
as it may be.

it sounds like their is some type of manipulation of the
voices.. like their pitch shifted to make him sound more
womanly or something

Just because a song is "over-played", "over-rated" or
"popular" doesn't make it bad.

I could care less who listens to it, what charts it's on,
what genre of music it is, if it's good then I like it.

It was an attempt to get a number one hit on the british pop
charts. I think it's a pleasant song to listen to.

No worries, I also find Windowlicker to be slightly
freaky... there is something inherantly wrong with those
voices, which makes it great.
Also, [equation] is marvellous.

I don't remember making this topic at all, but yeah, I agree
with the 19 year old me from a year ago, Windowlicker is
such an amazing track. It's got everything and the kitchen
sink.

It's not ''pop'' though... maybe Bizarro Pop.

windowlicker is a sinewy fusion of male and female, and sex
and death. the video perfectly manifests the transformation
of sexual desire and obsession into the visceral disgust of
rdj as kali, a living corpse.
