An idea...

ive always toyed with this idea...

what would your guys reactions be to this...

say i make an album... and you really like it. IDM of
course...

now what if you go to see me live... and ive got a full
band... playing it on live instruments

ie. real drums, and v drums, and keyboard players, and bass
players etc etc etc... who ever is needed...

needless to say... it would sound much different from the
original... because there would be much more acoustic
elements...

would this piss you guys off?

i like the idea personaly... a way to have a diverse musical
outlet...

im thinking of the future...

im not satisfied enough with my work yet to play it for
people...

but i live in NYC in the summer... and i go to school in
Boston... during the school year.

not to say i will sound like BoC...

but i mean... it would be a huge contrast from the original
sound is what i meant...

im really considering it...

for several reasons...

1. i think it would be cool
2. i dont want to be one guy on stage twiddling knobs.
3. i want to play live... because a. it allows for more
people to be exposed to my music, and b. it is a good source
of income... artists make the majority of thier money from
playing...

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2002-06-28 03:03 [#00287868]

its kind of like... the cd version is the porduced...
detailed and thoughtout product...

and the live renditions... would allow for variation, and
new takes on the music...

i mean... even with music made by real musicians... the cd
always sounds different from the live concerts... so im
taking this idea and putting it to the extreme

cool i play the guitar and cello and i'd love to get
involved in playing some cool music live

to bad i dont know anyone (in person) who'd be interested in
this kind of music

(not even necessarily traditional idm... but any cool
inovative music)

im just afraid of hardcore IDM fans being pissed. wanting to
hear the music just like on the cd... have the electronic
messed up drum sounds... and not a drum kit playing
instead...

why would a performance with live instruments piss anyone
off?

That actually sounds like a cool idea, if done well, ya
know? And I live in upstate NY so maybe I'd even get to see
you :)

Dozier...u live in the albany area too...cool :)

I've been tinkering with the idea of performing IDM stuff
with a band. I play guitar/bass and piano/synths...My set
list would include:

Come To Daddy-afx (Deathmetalish sound)
Flim-afx acoustic guitar/digi drums
5 Iambic Poetry-squarepusher-acoustic/electric...just live
version of orig.
kid for today-boc (organ, guitar w/w efx
Ruhbarb-afx (guitars)

i'm not really sure i'd last all that long on stage...i can
only play after i've been hit in the head with about 3
bottles.

i'm sure my audience would be like...get this crapp outta

Zeus: I think that would be amazingly cool. Hardcore-IDM
fans would probably be pissed but people with open minds who
really respect you as a musician would (should?) appreciate
what you're trying to do.

BTW, when the hell did you become a wizard? I've been here
longer than you!

you'd half to be really excellent players.

if anything fucked, especially while improving with grooves
and such, it would go sour.

Funny that this topic arises Zeus...

My band and I are making some great electronic music. Its
not exactly IDM but its not anything else either.

But since there are 3 of us (we might get a bass player for
live shows) we will just have Me (drums), guitar, synth, and
possibly bass. I'd have to learn how to play all these cool
beats that I came up with on a drum machine and try to play
them live. Anything thats impossible for me (or any of us)
to play acustically will just be played through our synth
guy.

I'm really looking forward to doing this: as not many bands
do this type of thing.
