I don't own a record player, nor own any records. Although I have many cds. Im curious to see why so many people want vinyl...? Isn't the sound quality better on a cd? If your not a Dj I can't really see the reason to wanting the same music on vinyl. Someone please inform me on the matter.

i love the smell of vinyl in the morning and unwrapping a new record, i always smell the inside of the cover, get a good whiff of that newly pressed record before it fades.....mmmmm

another thing...where do you find vinyl records ( of decent artists) ? There's this dj store by me, but they just sell mainstream trance vinyl.

it's like the contrast between analog(ue) and digital i guess. vinyl's basically analog(ue), producing a more raw sound quality, where CD quality is facilitated by 0s & 1s.

I saw ABPOITC by Boards of Canada on vinyl here... I was tempted to get it, but I'm not really a vinyl fan... I do have a record player here though...

I have a record player upstairs, but it doesn't work... we've got hundreds of records, but they're all shit, except for some gems. A Night at the Opera by Queen is up there. I always liked the HUGE vinyl packaging.

Vinyl is better for spinning and scratching if you are a DJ. CD, DJ set ups are lame IMO. Comparison Vinyl=oil painting CD= pixilated print.
IF you could actually see the sound vinyl looks like a polygraph test and CD looks like a bunch of squares, digital and pixilated.
Vinyl is much better for Big sound systems, vinyl is able to produce lower frequencies than cd's that's why dj's prefer vinyl, so the bass will hit hard as !@#$. You can actually crank the volume higher with vinyl without it distorting.
Cd's on the other hand are very crisp on the high frequency end for highs they have a better sound, CD's are much more portable and we all listen to Cd in our cars.

aesthetically, vinyl wins hands down

are you sure about the vinyls having lower end quality... and the cd has higher?
that sounds wrong... i dont know why
and i always though the reason djs perfered vinyl... was because A. djs were around before cds got big... and B. its been hard to mix cds up until recently...

I prefer cd, the sound quality is better and the vinyles seem like they can get really expensive... but the main reason, I don't own a record player of any kind

to be able to store the info on the cd, both ends of the frequency range are subsequently 'squashed' when digitally encoding, hence when reproduced causes some loss of quality of treble & bass

its an analogue vs digital battle here, i prefer to have vinyl.
if you see a BoC vinyl anywhere, buy it. it sounds so much better!! anything made with analogue equipment sounds great on vinyl... so much warmth to the sound!!!
