ok,
so ive listened to geogaddi like 5 times in a row.
i havnt in a while, so i thought id go back to it.
i dont see why people dont like it.
it is alittle darker then MHTRTC, but i think its much more sophisticated.
it was the next step in thier music.
i stand by my rating of a 10 for the album.
and the magic window track... ever heard of john cage? it was in honor of 4:33

Okay here's why I don't like it:
It's completely uninteresting because it uses many of the same hooks/techniques that they've used right from the beginning. Those big dreamy melodies, children's laughter, a person counting -- even the vocals sound the same. As for the beats, they're nothing special. Good but nothing special.
My problem with Geogaddi is that it's completely mediocre. I expected so much from the Boards and the disappointment is painful indeed. I have given it many listens -- many, many listens and if I hear that Leslie Neilsen sample again I'm going to loose it.
When are they going to explore new sounds and ideas? I'm not asking for a whole new sound but come on give us something. This is stagnation at its finest.

I disagree. I don't adhere to the idea that the only good "IDM" artists are those who are constantly pushing the envelope musically and making weird, trippy sounds. I think the best artists can create a cohesive, expressive work of art that creates a sort of "world" for the observer/listener. I think they've done this and at the same time they've managed to experiment a bit too.
the only IDM recordings that come to mind that successfully do this (at least for me) are Hangable Auto Bulb 1, Anvil Vapre, Claro, and Geogaddi.

i like geogaddi, but i didn't find it innovating... sometimes it's very nice, sometimes i find it boring because it isn't varied... as for artists creating atmospheres/worlds, i think almost every album creates an atmosphere, but more or less intensely... i wouldn't say geogaddi is one of them, i would rather pick SAW II by AFX, Fahrenheit Fair Enough by Telefon Tel Aviv, Modus Operandi by Photek... :)

I got MHTRTC and Geogaddi right around the same times, and shortly after made my own cd full of my favorite tracks from the two, so I have a slightly different pespective. I can say that the styles are very similar, maybe too similar, since I randomized the track order and they all still go together very nicely. It's not like it would be if you made a mix cd from SAW85-92 and Druqks..

i dont think their style is stagnating, but if their next release is more of the same it will be disapointing.

if you reread that interview you will find they said they wanted the production to sound like it came before mhtrtc, not the album itself.

Geogaddi and MHTRTC are two very different entities... sure they kept some of the same elements, but it's part of their style... my feeling is that they did change, and released another fantastic album... it would be nice to hear something TOTALLY new next time, but I'm sure I'll love it either way... and again, I do think Geogaddi was a change in their sound, just not a total, superhuge change...

anyway I wonder how many threads are started on geogaddi... I mean...I love football, so I post about football...but always in the same thread... why dont you people do the same about geogaddi? a thread called geogaddi that everybody will use to express their thoughts about it... instead of thousands of similar threads... I really dont care, but phobia is a little tired about this... i know that many of you will think I am stupid for saying things like this... but I just had to say it...cos its normal that we do some similar threads some times...but with geogaddi its tremendous the amount of threads we have...

I want to make clear that me myself, I have done lots of threads that had already been started... we cant have a total control on what has been discussed or not...but we all know there are thousands of threads about geogaddi
BTW I like geogaddi a lot

well,
because sometimes the topic varies.. even though its based on one idea (ie geogaddi)
and to scroll through 100+ posts is just annoying. and alot of times topics get off subject.
look at "magic window" it goes on and on about pedophiles and cults.

ok, i listened to geogaddi again and again...
and i must say it is completly equal, if not better then MHTRTC
its so much darker and sophisticated.
on first listens... it just sounds like MHTRTC extended... but once you start really listening... its so much more!
uhgggg SO AMAZING

that you are saying is true... many threads go offtopic, and I dont want to be the one that does it here so.
geogaddi is a good album, but listening to it...I dont see the years that passed between this and MHTRTC... 4 years and in my opinion no visible changes.
an artist doesnt have to change just because yes... but as thay tend to investigate I expected some more steps forward
