I've heard a lot about this Kubrick film, but I've never
really seen it... when I was 5 or something I watched it,
but it did nothing for me... I wonder why, hmm...

Anyway, I've read about it in reviews on the net, the movie
was recently brought to my attention by someone that thought
I would LOVE it. And reading about it, it sounds fucking
flawless, almost a silent film... slow and lethargic. I
desperately want to see it now.

Anyway, is it as good as I've heard, who's seen it? Like it?
Awesome soundtrack...

Somehow the image I have in my head of this movie reminds me
of Vletmrx21.

Maybe I should stop THINKING about the fucking film and just
go get it, eh?

it's really quite boring; but there are some good parts like
when the Hal 9000 starts trying taking over the ship,,, some
really good cinematography (as in all of kubrick's films)
and the music kicks ass.

if you have pink floyd "meddle", and you do get "2001",
start the song 'echoes' at the part of the flick titled
"jupiter beyond the infinite'. (note: the first ping in the
song should be synced to the time the title comes up, or
else it won't work quite right),,, it's like the old "dark
side,,"--"wizard of oz" thing. really cool shit.

enjoy! :D

Oh god, now I'm gonna have to do that. I've also got to try
that Wizard of Oz thing, too.

So much to do, so little time!

And slow pace and lack of action is what intrigues me...
hope it ISN'T boring.

if you dig slow paced stuff, you'll love it. if you love
kubrick, you'll love it. if you love,,, well, you get the
point... i suggest you get it,,,

and yeah, check out the dark side/ wiz of oz bit. you've
never done that?! man, my girlfriend's fave movie was the
wiz, but the first time we synched it with dark side, she
never watched it without it again. we must have done that a
thousand times.
anyway, yeah,,, check it out. :D

5 things good about it

1) the musical score-inspired
2) the long sparce camera shots. You feel like you're almost
there ; unlike say Apollo 13, in which you feel like you're
at a warm up party on Oscar night.
3) the claustrophobic thing... you'll know the feeling and
feel the nausea when U watch it, quite powerful
4) the odd interjections of different themes which you know
must be linked , but are not sure why... this got my mind
working overtime, and the "lethargic tedium" of the film
allows plenty of time to go off on your own head-trips
without being didturbed every 3 seconds by Tom Hanks
crying/pointless explosions/other general obvious 'attention
holders' which all the crap Hollywood films insist on.
5) The slight upturn in action at the end of the film which
you feel is going to reveal the entire meaning of it all
(and hence the meaning of life) but then, somehow leaves
you even more spellbound .

you'll probably be disappointed by it now :P

plus it features the longest cut in the history of
cinematografy: when that pre-human ape throws that
thigh-bone in the air it blends into a spacecraft of a
similar shape that is up there in our time. Pure poetry.

<<----- Favorite movie of all time

I own it on DVD as well as 2010 (which isn't as good as 2001
btw, but its still interesting)

You must watch it. The special effects are BADASS for 1969

think I'll get off my ass and go rent it.

Saw some screen captures on some site, and they look
freakin' gorgeous.

Ophecks: I must agree with the rest of the crew. The film is
awesome and one of my favourites. The intro might get people
to think "WTF is this..." but then it gets better and
better. My favourite part is when Dave is hacking into
HAL9000's main parts and... HAL responds "I'm sorry Dave, I
can't let you do that..."

brings up some great phisophical ideas about mankind and
questions where we're going as a species. although Kubrick
sucks at pacing in general (it drags like hell), it's a
masterpiece.
